What one option is missing from the new generation trucks?

The 1st generation Avalanches had them. Never heard any complaints about them

Point of the topic is what is the option that is missing. I believe it is a solid rear bumper. Glad some folks enjoy it, but I just don't want those on my truck, nor do I want to pay for a higher grade vehicle in order to get a standard bumper.

Just saying it should be a check on the options sheet.

Raptors are the stupidest thing to ever be produced, you would have to be a complete idiot to waste your money on something like that. $60k piece of marketing junk. I could go buy a left over 12' or 13' RCSB for 25, do a FULL pre-runner kit for $10k, spend another 10 on the engine/tranny and I would still have another 15 grand to play with and It would eat up that Craptor aaaaallllll day long for way less money.

Know this is off topic, but did they ever fix the frames on the Raptors? There were a ton of those tweaked right out of the gate & Ford told the owners originally that they were using them for unintended use & were not covering it. I am sure they came around & fixed them, just never followed up on it & it has been a couple years ago...

Problem is options are grouped these days. First off it makes more money, you want the back up camera well you have to buy the remote start as well etc. Number two from a production stand point it cost a heck of a lot more to have a million different combos vs taking an LT trim level and only have say 5 options. Not defending it but thats the way it is. I would also prefer to start with a base and do a line by line. All the big three do this, but GMs are the worst as well as their groupings. Wait till next spring this truck will cost you 3-5k less easy.

I would just like to see SOME sort of off-road oriented model. Ford has the Raptor. Ram has the Power Wagon. We're left with the measly little Z71 package. I want something with a taller ride height, lower gears, larger tires, and a few minor upgrades to the suspension/chassis.

I would also like to see 4:10 gears available in a 1500. With the 8 speed, I'm sure cruising RPM's would still be low enough to save MPG's. It would be nice if adding larger tires didn't turn it into a big turd, like the current 3:08 and 3:42 geared trucks.

And while I'm making a wish list....make the 6.2 available in any model!

Not as an option but standard: When windshield wipers are on headlights automatically come on. Delay for washing or mist cycle. Makes more sense to me than DRLs. Texas has even considered it as a law.

South and West Texas can be described as area of continuous drought occasionally interrupted by flash floods. We are in the flash food stage for a day or two. In gray tropical rain (means heavy at times) many this AM had wiper going full blast but no lights. I flash them but most too obtuse to pick up on it. Love it when you almost see a white or silver/gray car in driving rain and no lights.

DRLs help but your tail lights are not on. In driving rains one needs to see the tail lights as drivers must slow and some even stop.

That is a pet peeve of mine but it is not up to the manufacturer to make idiot proof cars and trucks. If someone is running around at dusk or in a storm with just DRLs or nothing on because the driver is so stupid they think that if the dash it lit up they're good to go then they deserve to be ran over. Idiot proofing cars just encourages idiotic behavior. New York has the wiper/light law and I think its stupid that they have to make it law. Its common sense.

I'm pretty sure the lights come on with the wipers, have did that for quite a few years now. If you look at your dash next time the wipers are on, the headlight symbol will be lit up also.

I would think the headlights (including taillights) do turn on after a preset time of the wipers being in any position other than off. My 05 Malibu does this, as did my 07 Yukon. It may state something to that effect in the manual, I believe.

I'm with you and not a big fan of DRLs BUT, If you do not/cannot see the idiot and pull out or turn and get T-boned it is my fault and serious injury is possible. My thinking is if they have DRLs for good conditions why not head and tail lights for severe conditions.

To the other two comments: I know of no car/truck that turns the lights on when wipers are on. Are you sure? Your automatic light sensor may turn them on if dark enough due to the rain???

IJS from my point of view, what I would buy a truck like that for would be a complete waste of money. If you actually wanted a truck that you could really without a doubt drive it hard off road...?

more color options, i'd like to see a green color and the burnt orange color that was available on the avalanches I think would look good. Dodge's look good in yellow and i'm a fan of yellow cars, so maybe even yellow just to see what these would look like.

While I agree with the no headlights statements, passing a law doesn't do jack. It rains in Florida umpteen days a year and idiots are constantly not turning on their lights. Just as bad are the people that put their flashers on while driving. I just want to ram them! Most of my driving is at night and I'm constantly seeing people with no lights on driving around. Passing a law to prevent stupidity is just that, stupid. Oh and we have the lights law in Florida, I've yet to see anyone get pulled over for it, I on the other hand have been pulled over and given a warning for too many lights...
