What one option is missing from the new generation trucks?

Recommended Posts

I disagree %100 with that statement. Obviously never drove in "Canadian" like weather before, it's downright suicidal driving without any lights on around here in the winter...get yourself killed

I agree. What we get down here is dense fog. Like you have to use the white line on the shoulder to drive. The DRLs are good for the I do not turn on my lights in poor conditions crowd. The problem in fog is no taillights on with DRLs. Anyway at least one end is lit.

How in the world does GM have 2 display screens in the dash and nothing indicates when 4WD is engaged? One of the annoying things I noticed when test driving a '14. I mean, totally ridiculous.

I thought the same thing. Went through the manual and everything looking for it. I guess they figure you will see the light on the knob it self.

Did the 07-13 have indicators for 4wd? I don't think my 07 Yukon did, either. I know the indicator light on the switch changes when 4wd is engaged as it has always done, but an indicator in the gauge cluster would have been a nice touch. No biggie though, bc I always look at the switch to make sure it's engaged.

Tail lights can be turned on in day time. Page 5-44 to 5-46 in the manual.

Simple: 4x4 indicator on the cluster

If you don't know if you are in 4x4 or not.

You don't need a 4x4 lol

Totally disagree. 90s style GMs with manual shifter had indicator light on dash and you could obviously see what position handle was in.

They display tire psi, temp, and yet no 4wd indicator on dash is FAIL

GM has had wipers coming on with headlamps for nearly 10 years. The DRLs turn off, and the headlamps, taillamps, etc are on until the wiper switch is turned to the "OFF" position.

Well shhhhoot. Learn something everyday. They do on my 09 Sierra and I never knew such. I have for years always just turned on my head lights (manual) when I turned on my wipers. Tested this AM and headlights and tails on when wiper on. Dang, wish the no lights crowd around hear would go recent GM.

Not even close to being accurate I'm afraid. Sometimes I'm constantly shifting between 2WD, Auto and 4Hi. And then I drive 100 kms on pavement at high speed and sometimes don't notice I'm still in Auto or 4Hi until I made a tight turn somewhere. That's when I look at that tiny little indicator light on the drive selector and swear...

This is an option you can get on the 14's Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I've "build" the truck I'd like to have online and I can't remember that option.

I hope I don't have to buy the "smoker option" together with a $1350 "old man convinience" packet including a "vitamin-pill storage" to get the handle on the A-pillar.

so long

My Ford has an indicator light on the dash, it nice but to be honest its spot on for when it clicks into high or low, but I can turn off 4x4 and the light will go out, but truck still be in 4x4.

Really if you don't know if the truck is in 4x4 without a light then well yeah that's all I can say, specially if you are actively trying figure it out. I have left mine in 4 wheel parked it for a few days hopped it and didn't notice right away but usually down the road 1-2miles I figure it out. And if your hopping in and out of 4 wheel to the point you cant keep track WTH are you doing???

Sigh, I probably shouldn't bother but... I often need to drive my truck off-road and on-road repeatedly. And if I encounter a mud hole on an otherwise good road I will sometimes place it in Auto mode before I risk going though. In Auto mode the ride is indistinguishable from 2WD until and unless you make a turn tight enough to feel binding, You do not hear the transmission whine and you do not feel it, particularly on gravel roads. I am not referring to the old Ford/Dodge/cheaper GM trucks that lack a true Auto mode. The whole point is that if GM designers had given more thought to the issue they would have included a dash display and not rely solely on a minuscule indicator light in a control which is out of the drivers line-of-sight and can at times be totally obscured by sunlight.

My point in listing the 4WD indicator was not because I can't tell that I am in 4WD but that GM made it a point to put 2 screens in these trucks with all sorts of (sometimes pointless) information but couldn't figure out how to include a 4WD indicator. My only guess is that they are using the same display and wanted to cheapen out by not showing 4WD.

Anyway, I find it annoying.
