In addition to this, I will add that if the outside diameter of both tips are the same ex:3" inlet with a 4" outside diameter, then the single wall will change the exhaust note slightly as you have added a small echo chamber that is slightly larger ID than the tailpipe previous The double wall will typically maintain a similar ID as the OD the tailpipe, and will merely extend the tailpipe and add an appearance factor to the vehicle without changing the exhaust note in any noticeable fashion.

 

I typically install my exhaust, then listen to it and decide if I want the same exhaust note or if I want to change it. If I like it the way it is, then I use a double wall that maintains the tailpipe diameter throughout it's length. (I do prefer the look as well).

 

If I want to change the exhaust note then I will use another tip, typically a single wall. I will use different diameters and lengths to accomplish the tone that I am searching for.

 

There are double wall tips that have a larger ID than the OD of the tailpipe, however that end up have a significantly larger OD than a comparable single wall tip and to me, look out of proportion.

 

The information that I've stated is based on using a slip fit exhaust tip and not a weld on. That can change some of the references to ID and OD depending on manufacturer.

All of these sounds clips of the Magnaflow are great. I'm looking to put one on my truck, but I'm unsure which I should get. I'm loving the sound of the 14" in the clips, but I don't want to listen to my wife bitch because it is to loud. If I do the 14" with resonator delete but leave the flapper, will I get pretty decent sound. I'm primarily looking for some rumble at start up and when I feel the need for speed. I'd like it to be pretty quiet at cruising speeds.

Maybe try the 18". If you leave the flapper on, no matter what muffler you go with, it won't be loud at all.

I was afraid of that. I personally like the meaner sound of the 14", but we take my truck on road trips for the extra room for the kids. I know my wife will complain the entire time if I go to loud. 95% of the time it wouldn't matter, but that other 5% has the potential to be a real pain in my a$$.

Guys, I have read so many threads on this and I still don't quite know what I should do. I thought I had it down to an 18" MF out to a 45 behind the wheel.

 

Then I saw the Gibson cat backs which look nice. I might even go with the 1 in 2 out to 45 behing the tires. I am concerned the Gibson may be too loud based on clips I have seen.

 

Which option would you go and why?

I have the Gibson swept side setup. Single in single out, both 3.5". It's a turbo style muffler with only two perforated tubes. It's deep burble at idle but makes decent noise when you get your foot in it. Probably very similar to the magnaflow 18". I wish I had gone slightly louderto be honest.

Zero drone. Just slightly louder than stock when cruising at highway speeds. It'll have a deep growl when you gun it to pass someone.

I've got 2 14" Magnaflow's sitting in the garage that are part of a GTO catback. I guess I need to get off my behind and decide what to do with them. Had a 14" on my Avalanche with a turn down and it was VERY aggressive. Looking for more toned down on the truck.

Corsa Sport arrived today and dropped it off at the Muffler Shop, will be waiting at the door in the morning . Wanted to have system welded but a Corsa Rep said it would cause warranty problems. Feel kinda' guilty having a Custom Exhaust Shop install a kit, I'm thinking it would take a few hours and the price to fabricate same type of system .

I think I will be going with the Gibson when I get around to it. I did a little more research and it seems like the mandrel bends are prefered to a pressure bender that I would get at a muffler shop. It's probably only $200 more that what a muffler shop would charge for a magnaflow and piping.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
