TechSTL Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Seems like a defective remote _or_ you had a chemical on your hand that doesn't play nicely with the rubber fob.
steven.fararre Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) And here is another one http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301298957767?item=301298957767&vectorid=229466 Edited September 3, 2014 by Steven Fararre
thefishhawk Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Sorry, we were talking about silicone covers for the remotes, not the fobs themselves.
steven.fararre Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 O sorry my bad I'll help look for those also
diannabill Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The original question was looking for a cover for the fob. What's the remote?
chuckl1218 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The original question was looking for a cover for the fob. What's the remote? Same thing...some call them fobs while others call them remotes. Owners Manual calls the system, Remote Keyless Entree (RKE) System and the "Fob" is referred to as the RKE Transmitter. Remote Keyless Entree alows unlocking the vehicle without a key by using a transmitter. OK, so how many folks actually call them "RKE Transmitter"? Try searching for that on eBay or just make it easier and call it a "Fob". Amazing...GM...

Thanks - I misunderstood the post above (from thefishhawk) and thought he was talking about two different things. Duh
355HP Z71 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 They are made out of cheap plastic . I would like it better if the 2 pieces were held together by a small screw instead of prying them apart with a coin to change the battery . Which always seems to damage the plastic. IMO
camcamaro1991 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) OP, these are the types of things, engineers, dealers and tech's don't talk about, sunscreen, hand moisturizer, make-up products, and your own hand oils (aka your alkalinity level). If its not the first 3 items, then my next guess is you may have high acidic levels in your body, you will need control your level mostly for health reasons. also high alkaline level/s can damage items as like chrome and mirrors. m3n00b Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) Jesus OP, my 20 year old BMW fob doesn't look 10% that bad. Edit: Wow this thread is old. Edited March 16, 2016 by m3n00b 1
anthony2558 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Very old post, but while were on it. The bug spray OFF destroys leather, rubber, plastic. Ruined my leather duty gear and my watch. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
SouthernSilveradoGuy85 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Ya I haven't seen one that wore out that bad so soon. I actually hang my keys off of a belt loop and then tuck them into my pocket so they're technically in my pocket while still being able to use it like keeping my knife in there. I keep my phone in my left pocket. I almost want to say you're is one of those times where you just got a bad one or something. But mine is also a different fob. Mine is the ordinary one without the "chrome" trim on it. Mine's just all black and no logo on the back. It's an LT with remote start and All-Star so it's not a WT or LS and it's a well optioned LT. I'm not sure why I got the all black fobs but I'm ok with it, not going to be picky about the fob lol.
AaronIROCZ Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 My main key fob to my old 2014 looked similar it actually looked like a layer of the rubber was coming off, no abuse was ever given to it like grinding it on pavement or throwing it, just normal lock and unlock and remote starts and then back into my pocket for the day or night, never washed or anything, I also do not use my finger nails either, I keep them trimmed pretty close. Just slowly wore off.
