My 2014 Sierra SLT crewcab short box vibration buyback / trade assist / replacement process so far:

May/June/July - In for service 5 times & 25+ days out of service for vibration. New Michelin tires, multiple road forces, new rim, new driveshaft, & modifications to rear end

End of July - Filed defect notice (Lemon Law)

Beginning of September - approved for replacement vehicle

End of September - picked out new replacement truck (drove several vibrators before finding a smooth one, sales people put vibrators back on the lot without fixing them)

October 21 - Still waiting for paperwork to be finalized but have been told that it should be by the end of this week. Fingers crossed....

After several discussions with my dealership and GM customer service I gather that GM is swamped with buy backs and that is why it is taking so long.

Congratulations on getting a new truck. Would you mind answering some questions?

Did you file the defect notice with BBB Autoline, or your state court, or just send GM a certified letter?

Did you use an attorney?

Did they offer you the option of a 15 if you didnt find another 14 you wanted?

Did you do a trade in with GM trade in assistance to make up the depreciation, or some other deal?

Thanks for any help.

most states require you let the dealer attempt repair so many times (check your states laws as there is a time frames as well for out of service and length of ownership) then after that has been exhausted you send the manufacture a certified letter advising of intent to declare the vehicle a lemon and request a buy back. The manufacture has so many days to comply at that point.

It is to vague to advise over the internet, you really need to research the laws in your state to be sure.

I do appreciate the input Tjay. This site is built upon the sharing of information. Please dont discourage someone from asking, or answering questions, if they chose to do so.

I wasn't, for something like this which is a legal request each person really does need to research their state laws. Each state is different, some require so many days out of service, some require so many attempts at the repair, some require it to be a safety issue, and some have a time limit.

I would hate for some to think it is super easy only to get crushed when they hire an attorney and are out money to find out there are outside the guidelines of their state.

I didnt ask him what I should do. Im asking him what he did. See the difference?

Being deeply embroiled in this confilct with GM for months now, while dealing with BBB and my selling dealer, I have a pretty good grasp of what to do to resolve this issue with my truck. At the same time, it never hurts to ask what someone else did to reolve a similar issue. Thanks again tjay for your input in my thread.

Moving on and back on topic.

After the last repair attempt (installing the Michelins) failed, I sent a final repair opportunity letter to GM via certified mail, return receipt requested. That should get their attention.

My paragraphs follow your questions. I hope this helps. My advise to you - remain calm and understand that this process takes a while. Your service manager is your best advocate when it comes to GM making a determination on whether or not to replace your vibrator.

Florida required that I send a notice to the manufacturer first to allow them a final repair attempt (it was in the back of the lemon law booklet that I received when I purchased the vehicle). I also notified the state at this time which encouraged me to work it out with the manufacturer but let me know that if I was not satisfied with their offer to then contact the BBB autoline.

I did not hire an attorney but I did call my local bar association and they put me in contact with the state lemon law division. They have an attorney on staff that explained the process to me and let me know what to look for regarding the offer from General Motors. I spoke with him on two different occasions. The first occasion was at the beginning and the second was towards the end when GM was not responding in a timely manner. GM has to respond in a reasonable amount of time or they can be penalized by the courts if you decide to go that route. The court can assess punitive damages for harassment.

When I could not find a 2014 on the lot of my purchasing dealership, they asked me to check the inventory of 3 other nearby dealerships. When I checked the inventory of a nearby dealerships I did not see anything that fit the same criteria of my 2014 so they "ordered" me one. This meant that they looked outside my area and found a 2015 "in transit" to another dealership and had it re-routed to my dealership.

GM's offer was MSRP to MSRP. Once the 2015 was delivered to the dealership I took it on a test drive and agreed to accept it to replace my 2014. Then 3 weeks later I got a call from GM to confirm everything. During this call they made it sound like a great deal and that I only had to bring a check in for $4,000 to pay for the "usage" of the 2014. Basically they were charging me for the miles I drove on the 2014. I told them that mileage was not a part of the offer and I was not accepting the mileage fee. Another week went by with no contact. I then called back into GM and was told that they were still waiting on a DMA (district manager aftersales) to waiver the mileage fee. Another week went by. I called GM again and threatened to file with the BBB autoline if the case was not resolved to my satisfaction within 5 days. Three days later I was at the dealership picking up my new truck and the mileage had been waived.

The deal went down as a "trade assist." So basically I traded in my 2014 for the same price I paid plus taxes, title transfer, tag fee, and dealership fee. I then got a new loan on the 2015 with the exact same payoff balance, interest rate, and remaining monthly payments. I had to pay $350 because the 2015 had bucket seats and my 2014 had the bench. Be prepared to pay for any additional options that your replacement vehicle has that you current vibrator does not have.

I learned afterward that the dealer has the opportunity to sell my 2014 vibrator on their used car lot with the option to give it back to GM in 90 days if they don't sell it.

Wow, great info, thank you.

I hope the 2015 works out great for you.

GM got my final repair letter and they are dicking me around about the final repair. I got tired of all the BS and hired an attorney.

Any issues with the 2015 so far?

Any issues with the 2015 so far?

At 500 miles I started noticing vibration at 70mph and immediately had second thoughts about buying another GM truck. I took it in and all four wheels were out of balance. Apparently they didn't balance the wheels after it was built and checking the balance is not something the dealer does when it arrives on the lot. For now it's driving smooth but I'll wait until I get to 2,500 miles before I comment further on the vibration. I will say that the headlamps on the 2015 are brighter and it is easier to see at night. Also, I can go farther out of town before the radio starts to lose reception and get static. The 2015 does not have the HD radio. The 4G WIFI in the 2015 is also a nice feature.

More vibration in your new 15!? Isnt that scary? Whew. Glad it was an easy fix.

Got mine back from the final repair. Still vibrates. I will be resuming the BBB process.

My dealer is in the process of relocating and claimed they couldn't find the EVA to diagnose the 65 mph shake. After 2 weeks I filed with the BBB, 2 days later a GM rep called me, 2 HOURS later me dealer had scheduled my truck to be tested at another dealer, 2 WEEKS later GM ordered my dealer to buy another EVA.

It seems GM is responding to the BBB and calling bs on uncooperative dealers. My K1500 WT standard longbed 4x4 is currently waiting for a rebalanced driveshaft. 25 days in the shop and 3 attempts. I'm getting close to the lemon law.

I notified BBB that the final repair failed, and I wanted to reinstate my complaint. They emailed me a form and I faxed it back.

They said they would reinstate my complaint and schedule a hearing.

Couple days later I got another email from BBB. GM is telling BBB that I have filed a lawsuit against GM. That would be grounds for BBB to instantly drop my arbitration case.

Funny, my attorney hasnt filed anything..............yet.

The game continues.................

Crazy to read about all the buybacks on this year. Ever wonder what happens to them? Never hear about a "Lemon Law" used car lot? That's becuase GM puts them back on the used car lot and hopes you don't find out. I unfortunately ended up buying one and had to sue GM to get them to buyback their buyback vehicle. They did but it was a hard lesson learned about buying a used vehicle for a great price. It's to bad a lot of people are going to be getting 2014 Chevys at a great price that are just full of problems.

I know what you mean Sgtusmc, GM wont do anything substantial to make anything right unless you force them to.

They also prefer to give out MSRP to MSRP trades instead of buying back a lemon outright. Less cost for them that way and they also sell another vehicle. Thats a win/win in their book.

Whats really bad is that once someone does buy one of these bought back lemons, I dont believe GM will admit anything about it to the next customer when they bring it in for a major problem.

How did you find out yours had been bought back before?
