GM not offering many 22 inch wheels as an option anymore

New to the Forum. I've been looking and building a 2015 Sierra Denali 6.2 and have wanted the 22 inch wheels, and will be purchasing one as soon as I know for sure it rides and drives the way I want. (I'm not too worried.) but my latest searches on the GMC website only show GM offering two 22 inch wheels. Neither one is chrome. I was really hoping to buy the 22 Inch Wheel - 6-Split-Spoke Chrome (CK156) - SEY. As an option when building the truck, the wheels run about $2995, but when adding them as an accessory after the fact is much more...Anyone know what's going on with that?

Go over to the chevrolet site and look under accessories for the 14 silverado. There's about 8 different ones you can get for our trucks. Yes gmc and gm wheels fit the same on each our own trucks.

Yea, I've seen this. As accessories after you've already bought the truck is more expensive than when they are offered as an option buying new. I was wondering what the reasoning was behind this or if anyone knew. Why offer 8 different sets of wheels on the 2014 Silverado and Sierra as options on the build but only offer 4 different sets on the 2015 as options?

May I ask, why are you so stuck on a certain wheel?

 

I wouldn't take a truck with 22 inch wheels if they came as a free upgrade. Think of the incredibly hard time your going to have finding tires for that thing. 22 inch rubber for trucks is not common by any means. You can also kiss the idea of all terrain/mud terrain tires goodbye if you ever want to lift the truck. I have not seen mud tires or A/T tires offered in that wheel size.

 

I see no benefit to the ever increasing factory wheel size. 20 inch is the absolute max I would ever consider, and I still prefer 18 as the number one choice. With a 22 inch wheel, you will have almost no sidewall. That means pretty much no off roading, not even light off roading, and a very rough ride, since you no longer have a sidewall to flex and absorb bumps.

 

It's your money and your choice, but my $0.02 is to avoid a wheel of that size at all costs, especially on a pickup truck.

Op. Disregard everything you just read here. Guys run 40s on 24s these days, and many more run 33s, 35s, and 37s on 22s, so I assure you there is absolutely no shortage of off road tires in a 22" flavor much less all season tires. This is the same argument people made about 20s for years and now that 22s are more or less considered the new 20s from the factory this is what we get. I'd be willing to bet that most that make this argument have never owned a vehicle with 22s.

 

We went from 20s to 22s on our 15 Tahoe and my wife, who was paranoid about the great ride suffering, can tell zero difference. Neither can I for that matter and I'm meticulous about most things. I'm even considering 22s on my truck now with 33s.

 

If 22s were so uncommon and ride killers, you wouldn't be seeing them on higher end SUVs with such increasing regularity. So go for it. It will look great.

Strange. .. my o3 had 305s on 22s Terra Graps. They were stinking expensive ( at the time) but I didn't think the ride was horrible. It was a mall crawler in all fairness.

I want the 22 inch wheels because of looks first and foremost. If you're spending over $50k for a vehicle, I think you should be able to have it look anyway you please. ie, lifted, lowered, modded, etc.
Secondly, the Sierra Denali already comes with 20 inch wheels. It is such a big truck, the 22 inch wheels make a huge difference to me in the fullness of the look. I say this because my father has a 2014 LTZ Z71 Silverado and his 20 inch wheels were recently stolen. When it came time to replace, he was able to get 22 inch wheels as a due to them being the only ones the dealer had in stock and his truck looks a lot different, in a good way.

(Another note, there were 4 to 5 trucks on the lot that were sitting on bricks due to having their wheels stolen. All had wheel locks as well. Garage your vehicles at night if you can!)
Not to mention, with the winters around here, I will only be running my 22s half of the year as winter goes for half of the year. So if I'm in need of tires, it wouldn't be as much of a need as if I were running the 22s 24/7/365.

 

I have seen a website with factory replicas, but I was attempting to avoid this if at all possible. May be the cheaper option, but cheaper isn't always better...

I saw the same 22 inch wheels and tires I bought on a truck on showroom floor when I bought mine and asked about them during the process of buying my truck on a couple of different trips and the dealer quoted me more by about $600 dollars total after I called around to different parts dealers in the area and I finally settled with one dealer that gave me a good price. The next day I went to dealer and picked up 4 rims,tpms,lug nuts,center caps and than drove to discount tire to get tires that they had in stock on a regular basis installed on my truck. I have not had any trouble out of this set up since day 1, I drove on stock rims for about 2 weeks after buying it new and can not tell a difference in ride quality from the 20s to 22s but the looks are big difference.. Same tire,same rim as what dealer had but about 600 less when it's all done the route I took. I can understand about the short sidewall and quality of ride but that's on the 26s and bigger that you see on certain trucks running around town. Just my 2 cents. Everybody likes there truck a certain way that's why so many options and ideas.

its because the china chrome factory burned down so they stop producing the wheels

only place to get CK156 SEY are ebay (if they have them they come day by day and sell fast)

Thanks @White_Denali. Both of those websites have exactly what I am looking for and I definitely will use them or use them as a bargaining chip. I have never been opposed to putting things together after the fact to get what I wanted, and I def. want those wheels or a comparable set of 22s.

I agree I test drove 2 sierra denalis one with the stock 20s and one with the 22 upgrades. The 22s look a lot better and fill the gap a lot better. I also thought the 22s road/drove better. Not sure what tires were on the 22s but I assume it is the oem tires on a brand new truck.

 

If I can get the numbers right I will be getting a new 15 denali and will try to find a set of the 22s that were available in 14

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
