Chrome vs Black Wheels

I love my white and chrome, however with that grille, I'd say the black wheels will look the best. 2f8f4f836e27927fbb84ba1e2c33229d.jpg

Do something a little different than everyone else. Where I live all the younger guys go matte black and the more "mature"guys have chrome. They both look good on the right truck. I wanted something different so I custom ordered wheels in "graphite gunmetal metallic"; I have a tungsten (grey) truck. I love matte bronze and if I had a white truck that's the route I would have gone. I know there's another member on here that had some Method wheels powder coated bronze and they looked amazing. Don't limit yourself to black or chrome. It's YOUR truck; have fun with it.

I'm not a white truck kind of guy, but to me, white and chrome all the way. Black rims get lost in the wheel wells with the tires, and quite frankly look like crap to me. You asked for an opinion, and this is coming from an old school guy, so take it for what it's worth. I know a lot of the young guys think the black wheels look "SICK", and I agree, but not in a good kind of way.

I'm with my Canadian friend above.

Black wheels look like a young guy with a baseball hat turned around should be driving it. It says: I'm a "recreational" vehicle. Nothing wrong with that, if that's who you are.

Chrome looks classy to me and is right at home with a guy in a suit or business casual or "recreating" with your hat turned around backward.

I have come around to liking the dark gray chrome like Bass Mechanic has on his truck. I think it's a nice balance to get a darker wheel for the more modern look, yet keeps a classy look as well.

But in the end, I'm definitely "Old School", including the 5 spoke part.

How did he make his rims dark grey or is that the default color of the all terrain rims?

OP I've yet to decide either for my situation. If I were running white or silver it wouldn't be a question I would probably get Black rims I like the contrast.

Metallic iridium or black with black rims is a little different to me. I like black on black, but am unsure how I will like metallic iridium with black. There are two tundra TrD PRos here that are dark grey with black rims that look fantastic so idk what my hesitation is. If I do decide on black I'll be doing it like these, with a satin black finish. I love the way this looks. It would be between the all terrain rims and this for me.

They are what is referred to as "black chrome". Although, it is more of a tinted chrome than a true black chrome, but that's just semantics. Still looks really good. Best of both worlds.

Definitely the best of both worlds! Would look great with metallic iridium.

If your other trim pieces will eventually be black, then I think black rims would look the best. Just my opinion. If every square inch of your truck is going to be either white or black, then I think chrome wheels would look out of place. If you're leaving the other chrome on your truck, then chrome rims would probably look better. Just my $0.02...

This x2. I guess that makes $0.04 here total hehe :P

First of all, sweet truck. I have a buddy that has a Sierra All-Terrain in white and painted everything white. He then put on black wheels and it looks FABULOUS. I would go that route, but you will have to address the grill, if you white everything out then the grill will look out of place. Photoshop it with the grill frame white, mirrors, handles and trim all white. The thing with doing what you are doing is that you open a can of worms, the more you white out, the more out of place the remaining black bits will look. Bottom line, all white with black wheels is my two cents. White, black and chrome all together is too busy. Your off to a great start though, i like the grill.

Editorial Change: I have changed "SICK" to "FABULOUS" so as not to confuse any age group with my post. Sorry for the confusion.

So I think mostly everyone is agreement that black would flow better once it's colormatched & I kind of agree. While chrome has a soft spot in my heart, everyone around here does have chrome and a valid point was also made, a lot of younger guys do have black wheels. I truly hate being like everyone else, thus the mods I have on my truck (nobody around here has them yet, but they'll copy them I promise) I'm very picky when it comes to black wheels though & solid black has never been my first choice so I may just try the black on for a white and see if it grows on me. I've also actually been entertaining the idea of graphite/metallic gunmetal as plasti dip calls it. It's a very dark greyish color and looks really nice. It's a "metalizer" and goes on top of the matte black and completely changes the appearance. If those two fail then I may just leave the chrome wheels and eventually opt for aftermarket. I wish it would arrive today but I still have to wait until tomorrow to begin the fun! Thanks guys, i'll definitely post pics as soon as I finish up.

EDIT* When I say "here" I mean my hometown. Not the forums! Haha

Oh btw here's the graphite I was talking about

Quite a few wheel manufacturers make contrast cut wheels also. That could be an option also if your not digging the all black or all chrome set-up.

Those look schweeeeet! Flat black wheels I'm not a huge fan of, glossy black I love, black chrome is even better!

I had a few in mind, I just didn't want to part with the stock wheels because I love them. The design is awesome and I don't want to mess with offset so much, I want larger tires down the road.

I have to chime in and say that for what it's worth, as spurshot posted the pics above..

the very first thing people say when they see my truck is "NICE WHEELS" is by far the most common first compliment I hear about my truck.

what I love most about them is they look stock, and if you didn't know where to get them you might think it was a factory option. it makes my truck look unique while not attracting so much attention.

I went with black lug nuts as I know chrome would never look right against these wheels.

I got the set of wheels and tires with TPMS for about 1800 for everything.

my dealer said that with my all terrain blacked out like it is should have been offered as an option. my dealer said it looks like it should have been offered as an "SS" version.

and I think they are right on target!

it would be easy for a dealer to replace the chrome with paintable door handles, mirror caps and remove the chrome or cover the chrome on the doors like I did.

put the wheels on and charge an additional 5,000 for the " SS package" with a cost of maybe 1/2 that to get it to look like mine.

I'm not a fan of 100 percent Black wheels, black lug nuts.. Etc. When they are all blacked out you can't even see the design of the wheel.. IMO I prefer machined and gloss black!9365bb917b39c30aa058e8f58f18598f.jpg

Alright fellas, I just finished my rear bumper. Took almost all day, I could do the front today but the suns going down and it's a bit windy so I'll do it tomorrow morning. I'm extremely happy with the turn out! It matches very well! For a $50 paint job and some time I couldn't ask for better.

only my opinion

i removed everything chrome on my truck ,,,,,,i don't like chrome because i think chrome was nice in 1960 but time is over

i like black accessories , black wheel, fat black not something that shine a lot

and a white truck with every accessories in fat black would be amazing for me

any color with chrome seem ordinairy for me even the biggest or the most expensive one if it have chrome won't get me attracted

as i said , only my opinion
