I shop for EVERYTHING online.

 

Dealer that posts MSRP on their website would never see me, I suppose sales to the "I got $3000 off sticker but they wouldn't budge a penny more" guys make up for loss of the sales to people like me, but I don't want to waste time haggling for the easy discounts.

 

Different world today, but some dealers want to pretend people in the information age still want to come in and waste an afternoon trying to wring a discount out of them.

My experience buying a truck this go round has me hoping this happens much sooner rather than later. I finally decided to quit playing the dealers games, and will only deal with dealers who are willing to do it how I want to, not force me to play it their way. Too bad, as one local dealer has the truck I want on the lot, the pricing he initially gave me for another truck I was first interested in was very aggressive, and for a similar discount on this one, I would have bought it last weekend, but the endless games they want to play has me looking to drive 3+ hours away to buy.

Basically I shop by phone or email. Tell them what I want and what Im going to pay. I do this until I get the dealer I want and the price I want. I dont give them my last name or how im going to pay, that can come later.

I shoot emails to every dealer that has a truck I am interested in (in an hour radius of my house) with my offer. I make it clear that my email is going to several dealerships and the one who ants the sale will get it. I have done this on my last two trucks and it has worked out great. I have walked in and signed on the dotted line and walked out with the deal I want both times. Plus they get everything ready before I get there saving hours and hours at the stealership.
