Biggest 17" rim/tire combo

Hey Guys,

So after reading and browsing literally hundreds of pages, I still haven't been able to find the answer I'm hoping to find. Tons of info for 18" and 20" tire/rim combos, but scarce info on 17".

Soon I will buying Method NVs 17x8.5 0 offset and 4.75 spacing and looking for a bigger tire to wrap around them as well. I've seen trucks run a 285/70r17's with no level and still have space on stock rims. I have also seen where guys are running 34" tires on 20's with a 2" level with no issues as well so why couldn't I run a 34"?

My dilemma is that when I purchased the truck, I received a $700 Costco card and am going to use it to purchase the tires, but they only order BFG's. So I was planning to get the KO2's, but after some research, I found BFG's run small and a 285/70r17 tends to look skinny in a BFG. With the purchase of new wheels, I also plan to put a 2.5" RC Leveling kit as well.

So what do you guys think the biggest tire I could run? I don't mind trimming/tying back the liner, but would prefer not to hack any metal.

Thanks

Daniel

I don't think BFG's run small, if anything, they run true to size..or much closer than some other tires "AHEM" like my Goodyear Duratracs that should be 32" but measure 31....

You should stay close to stock offset as possible, which is I believe +27 or +28..something like that

With a 2" level, you can run a 285/70 17 (aprox 32.7") with no issues, providing the wheel doesnt have a ridiculous negative offset.

As far as people running 34" on a 2" leveled truck with no rubbing, i find hard to believe. Ive got a 2" level and running a 285/50-22 on a +18 offset (33.3") and i had very minimal rubbing on my fender liner. And thats WITH a level. But i could somehow be wrong. But i know that the combo im running is the MAX i could go without serious rubbing

I have 285/70/17 on the NVs, with a 2" level. I think the look is great, wouldn't want any taller without a body lift. I wouldn't mind wider, like 305/65/17, but that's a tad shorter too then.

I've been contemplating this exact same thing. I'd prefer 18's but am pretty set on Method wheels and they only have a -0- offset in the 17 or 20. I was also thinking the 285/70-r17 tire would be the perfect size. I think with your wheels at a zero offset there would be problems with a 34" tire.

I'd have to say safest would be the 285/70's unless doing an actual lift vs the level, or adding a BL to the level. I'm running 285/75's on stock 17's with 2.5 level and 1.5 BL and had a very minor rub on the drivers side wheel at full lock in reverse. There are variations in all trucks and with a change to wheel offset you maybe able to get away with it.

yeah I was looking at the 305's, but to gain an inch in width, gotta give up an inch in height, Ill stick to the height. hopefully get better mpgs :lol::lol:

Just to help out a little... I have 285/65/18s (which are the same size as 285/70/17)

I'm running that size in a BFG AT ko at the stock level with no rubbing issues.

I'm looking at going with 17" method nvs as well and probably sticking with the same size, but maybe going taller, who knows (After a 2" level of course)

Not to hijack the thread but could I fit a 285/70-17 on the stock 17" LT wheel with the bilstein 5100 adjustable leveling kit?

Yes. I have stock wheels and a tire that same size on a stock ride height 2014 silverado right now. They will fit with or without the leveling kit.

I have a 2.5 in leveling on a 2015 and I’m going for 17 in methods and 285/75/17 nitro ridge grapplers. I don’t mind trimming the liner I just hope I don’t have to hack the metal.
