$50 and under modifications

Recommended Posts

Didn't see it yet, but other than free, one of the cheapest mods is the

Fog Light on automatically with your low beam headlights.

Under $1 for a Diode Jumper and

5-6 minutes to jump Slot #10 Fog Lights into Slot #22 Parking Lights in the power source under the dash just above your brake pedal (or just behind the hood release latch).

Pull out little brown electrical "box" place diode into #10 slot and other end into #22 slot.

Put little brown jumper back into it's motherboard and done.

Any way you could post a picture? I would really appreciate it, Thanks, Bob

Sure I'll try, haven't posted a pic on this forum yet, but here goes.

Go to Amazon or similar and order these:

1N4004 400V 1A Axial Lead Silicon Rectifier Diodes

You only need one really but order 25 as it's just as cheap once you take into account shipping if you try to order just one.

Plus if you bend or break the one diode, you have back ups.

Then you'll look under your dash above your gas pedal. You'll see a bunch of small power blocks inserted into a larger one.

You want to locate the BROWN one.

At the top you see a release latch. Go ahead and push it in and pull the small BROWN electrical block out of the larger one.

Twist it around so it's oriented with the release latch up.

Using the diagram in the picture I've attached, locate pin/cable slot #10. It's obviously 2 slots over from #8 that's marked on the diagram. Insert one end of the electrical diode down into that #10 slot. If needed use a needle nose pliers. The diode pins are pretty bendable so just make sure you get some of it down into the #10 slot.

Then go down to the bottom (last row away from the release latch and go to slot #22 (clearly one over from the #21 that's marked in the diagram).

Push the other end of the diode down into the #22 slot.

Once you have them both in the #10 slot and the #22 slot, you've made a jumper "bridge" between the two.

Gently twist the BROWN electrical cube back so it's oriented and push it back into it's motherboard. It will click back in.

Insert key in your ignition and test it out.

You're FOG LIGHTS should automatically be ON if your low beam headlights are ON.

When your low beam headlights are OFF, the fog lights will also be OFF.

You can now just leave the dash mounted headlight selector in AUTO and your low beams and your fog lights will both automatically come on each and every time your headlights come on, and go off when the headlights go off.

All done.

Here's another cheap "mod"

I noticed when you look inside the rear wheel wells and from the back of the truck on the frame and on the rear axle and axle housing there are BLUE dots scattered in certain areas.

It's really easily visible through the rear wheel wells on the black frame.

Well, personally I just took a bit of Rust-O-Leum Flat Black paint and sprayed a touch over each one of those blue dots.

No more blue dots visible from the side or rear of truck.

LOL, minor I know, but figured what the heck, looks a bit cleaner.

Is this with the parking lights like posted above or low beams?

Low beams would make the fogs turn on with DRL. But if you tapped it to the parking lights wouldnt they turn on when you use your blinker during the day?

Yes, jumping #10 (fog lights) with #22 (It's really with the parking lights), which are of course tied to the low beams as the low beams don't come on without the parking lights.

This way you could also run the fogs with just the parking lights if you wish too by moving the dial selector one move to the right of "auto" on the dash knob.

The fogs are not on during the day with the DRL. DRL are on different fuses/relay.

The parking lights and the blinkers are also on different relays and lights, so the fogs don't come on with the blinkers either.

The "for some reason" is so other retailers do buy them all up and sell them at a higher price for a profit. The 25% off is for consumers not for other companies to make money off of the deal.

By far the best one for me so far was sticking a paint stick under the throttle.

Incase your not aware....

Move your throttle with your hand and watch the throttle assembly. For many of us it's so loose that we have 1/2 inch of throttle travel before it actually does anything. Stick something behind the assembly and throttle response is much better.

Nice, never knew that was a issue. When I get back from Germany, I will take a look at this. Thanks!
