Dmac 1984,

Forgot to tell you that I did the steering wheel before doing the wiring mod. Swapping the steering wheel is pretty straigth forward, I did not change sppring coil since my steering wheel do not have te heating button, and voice commands worked perfectly. There is a tutorial video on youtube on how to change the steering wheel

So if i dont want the heated steering wheel what do I have to do to make it work like yours?

Just swap wheels and run wires into the HMI module?

And where did you get your wheel?

You got a Facebook man so we can IM? I'm really interested in doing this mod, but cant get a solid direction, and you have the same exact truck as me.

Putting in an unprogramed cluster in your truck that isn’t connected to your vin - could theft lock it. This is the case as far as I know; I have nooooo idea how you just put in and it worked.. like it sounds like magic lol got extremely lucky or something.

I echo what@WesternMike says. Never install a cluster that wasn’t programmed for your truck. It will set off tamper flags. Also, if this cluster gets sold to someone else and they install it, it will also set off tamper flags from that “tainted” cluster to the new truck it goes to.

Always be Leary about installing installing used clusters too because you never know it’s history. If it was properly programmed by WAMS, then you’re good to go.

Like both @WesternMike and @pgamboa have mentioned, I'd be very hesitant putting any module in a different vehicle, especially a cluster, that needs programming due to tamper flags.  You may have gotten lucky because all the parts came from the same vehicle thus all the modules already have the same internal VIN even though they dont match the VIN on your truck.  Everyone else wanting to do this mod, I'd play it safe and have WAMS do the programming.

Agree to you all, but I only programed HMI module and the rest worked just fine (Radio Module, Cluster Gauge). What I did not replace was telematics module since I am located in Mexico.

Actually did it, and I was not able to turn the engine on until follow on screen instructions on cluster gauge "Open and Close driver window" did it and the truck started with no problem. Maybe there is a series of steps that we still don´t know that need to be follow in order for the BCM to activate or accept unprogrmmed modules, maybe.

I don’t understand how this worked? Has anyone else actually tired this before we started spending a ton of money on the programming of this? Im sure others have had the security flags trigger right? Lol witch craft happening here or something.

It didn't. He set off the tamper flags that or the cluster simply isn't programmed at all with anything e.g. blank (so missing all the proper content programming and setup) and in addition to not working properly after 255 Key Cycles its going to lock and then you're screwed as you've got the flags AND the cluster is junk.

There is also lots of confusion on what “Plug and Play” actually means. I’ve seen many posts on FB of people that simply installed it and say “it works”. What you don’t know and/or is not disclosed is that their mileage shows “ - - - - - “, (dashes instead of actual mileage), content missing, features not working right, etc.

Please don’t do this and use WAMS for the correct programming.

Yeah, a little reading on what one is trying to achieve will go a long way in the long run with our mods.

Some try to find the cheapest route; which majority of the time isn’t a great idea.

I wouldn't mind keeping the small screen and my plain ole WT cluster. At least for the time being. But I want my steering wheel audio controls to work. I've replaced the wheel. Now all I need to do is the wiring....yes?

That's where I'm at. I have an 2015 LS, I've upgraded the steering wheel, and to an IO5 radio. I don't really care about the cluster, would just keep the small one. I just want the wheel controls to work the radio.

The only thing ay this would work is if the wt cluster has the capability of communicating with the steering wheel controls and the hmi. Ask WAMS about this but I don't think the cluster has that capability.
