Carpet on the driver's side - Am I being too picky, or is this don

The carpet is cut fairly low to the floor, and not held to the body by anything at the top..no tape, no stud holding it in. I constantly feel my nasty work boots touching it, and I know stuff is falling back behind there where I'll never be able to clean..just sitting between the carpet and the body, waiting to rust it out. I've got a crappy 15 year old Explorer sitting out in the driveway and I looked at the carpet on that just for shits and giggles and it is affixed way better than this, nothing getting behind it.

 

I know this seems like a stupid, tiny little problem and I'm just complaining about nothing..but really, for what these trucks cost us? Come on..there shouldn't be any little problems like that.

I bought weathertech floor liners for mine and now you can't even see the carpet. 1 year in and 23k miles and my carpet looks brand new underneath. Highly recommend. (Note, I got the floor liners, not the floor mats.)

I personally haven't had any issue with the carpet. And the boots I wear are either steel toe Cats or my Ariat cowboy boots. I still have the factory floor mats.

 

I also tend to look at things on how easy or hard it might be to work on or get to and the way the carpet is it looks like it wouldn't get in the way if you had to get under the dash for some reason.

I second the floor liners but can't recommend the weathertechs.

Would you be able to snap a low picture for me, of how it sits near the pedals? I just looked them up, and they look amazing, but from the pictures they show on the website it doesn't look like it extends any further up than the carpet in the picture I posted...my only concern is that stuff will end up behind the carpet (or the weathertech liners, if they don't go up far enough) and I'll be unable to clean there.

I can't seem to get the uploaded to work for a pic but it pretty evenly stops about 3/4" shy of the top of the carpet under the pedals. I wear boots a lot as well and don't have any issues with dirt or debris going behind it into the carpet. If you have the option you can move the pedals out farther so your foot isn't as close to the edge of the carpet.

I looked and my Husky exact contours stop about 1 to 1 1/2" below the top edge of the carpet so they probably will not help you with your concern. If you buy Husky floor liners MAKE SURE you get the Husky Exact Contour Rubber floor liners not the regular husky weatherbeater liners. Weathertech just has a hard plastic feel to me these husky Exact contours are a soft flexible rubber material and really have the quality that you expect when you pay that much........... the husky weatherbeater liners are more like the hard plastic weathertech liners IMO. I am not too concerned about dirt getting behind my carpet but I do see that it could happen in certain situations after sneaking a peek under there. All ears if someone has a easy way to add some fasteners of some kind to seal the top edge that does not involve tearing the truck apart LOL.

3m double sided tape would probably work fine. When I looked yesterday was also the first time I noticed just how open the carpet is lol

I don't know where you put your feet when you drive, but unless you have the cruise control on, your right foot has no way to get any dirt over the top edge of the carpet. I guess if you tried hard, you could get some dirt over the top edge with your right foot, but for me personally I would find it uncomfortable to ride with my foot that far up especially since I right foot brake.

For almost 40 years I worked on ROWs, I go to a carpet store and pay one $ per carpet sample and put that over my floors. Easy to pull out shake the dirt out. I don't park in the mud, and clean my boots in the grass before I get in my truck.

The only good thing about the Weathertechs is they cover the side are by the concole where the Husky's are about 2 inches short. The weathertechs do tend to curl iver time, but can be refited with some heat apllied with a heat gun or blow dryer. In any regards any type of floor liner is good investement if you want to protect your trucks carpet.

      I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY

      I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
