Any major brand 5W30 full synthetic dexos approved. Brand doesn't matter as long as it is dexos approved. Get a good quality oil filter. AC/Delco, Wix, Napa Gold or Platinum are my preferences. And yes going off the oil life monitor is just fine in most circumstances. Leave it at that and live stress free!

Requires 0W20 not 5W30.

To the OP, I plan on using Mobil 1 full synthetic with a Mobil 1 Filter when I change the oil. The 3 times before was under the 2 year maintenance so this coming up time will be the first time doing it on this truck.

0w20. Don't run the risk and run a different weight. Any brand will be fine as most of the 0w20 market is Dexos licensed. I personally use Pennzoil Platinum in my HD(different weight than the 5.3 and 6.2 which are 0w20). $24 a 5 quart jug at Walmart. I run in it my truck and my brother's Camaro SS so I buy like 3-4 jugs at a time and it gets me two on my truck and one Camaro change.

I do all my own maintenance and either use Mobil 1 EP or Pennzoil Platinum, either with a Mobil 1 filter or K&N filter. Usually the local parts store has a deal with either of those oils, and then the filter like a $4 upcharge, then go to wally world for another jug of the same oil for around $20-25

Like stated above, run 0w-20 that is dexos rated and you will be fine.

AC Delco filter along with Wix, Car Quest house brand and NAPA are good choices for filters.

Amsoil Signature Series, 0w20.

Personally I think you're wasting money, especially if the oil you get is full synthetic. Full synthetic last 10,000 miles. The reason the oil life is set for 7,500 is because the factory and dealerships use synthetic blend. Regular oil last 5,000, syn blend last 7,500 and full syn last 10,000. But, if it makes you feel better than go for it. Those #s are all city driving also, so if you do a lot of interstate or highway driving then you can go even longer, but I always go by city miles.

Keep an eye on Amazon and Walmart if you go Mobil 1, you can get sales at $22.88/5qt jug with free shipping. Don't even have to leave the house.

I was using a Penzoil full synthetic for a while. I found the engine went into V4 more often and I noticed more leakage of oil around my catch can connections probably due to the slightly lower viscosity of a full synthetic versus a synthetic blend. Last 2 oil changes I had to go to the dealer for recall work and decided to just get the standard AC Delco synthetic blend 0W-20 to save money and I swear the engine feels like it runs better and the oil leaking around my catch can connections has dropped by at least 90%.

In my opinion, if you're like me and change the oil every 5,000 miles, just stick with the standard AC Delco synthetic blend 0W-20. You're already changing it 2,500 miles earlier than what the manual and oil life monitor recommend. If you're consistently pushing it to 7500 miles between changes, I'd probably stick with a full synthetic.

Vettes call for 5-20 Mobile 1 Extended Performance that I get at wally world for $28 and change that's what I have run with no negative effects.

RT

The Vettes run 5w30 not 5w20. The Vettes have a different performance requirement hence the higher weight oil.

Damn. 0W20.. what a shame. 5W30 used to be good for just about anything except Diesels. I take it they went to that 0W20 crap when the new direct injection thingies came out in 14 for the trucks? Sheesh, have to wonder if that is what is causing the high oil consumption people complain about in DI engines, but I've also heard it's due to the piston rings having to be engineered the way they are to make DI engines work which as a side effect results in more oil consumption vs the non-di engines.

Even 5w30 (thinking Amsoil 5w30 Diesel) was good for a diesel!

The 0w20 is for CAFE standard...the thinner something is, the easier is to pump. I think that's also why the sumps are what, 8 quarts now?

In a few years, we'll see 0w0 standards to meet EPA regulations.
