Should I get the 6.2 or stick with the 5.3?

Brand new with warranty and BETTER LIGHTS FOR NIGHT DRIVING 5.3L.......Don't drive or 6.2 and you will never have to compare and you can forget about it!

 

 

But it's like spending the night with a 21year old broad every night! Talk about a pleaser too!

Think about ordering exactly what you want, it's not too late for the 2017's. If you want to spend the extra $2,700 for the 6.2 for the privilege of burning high-test gas, that's entirely up to you. At least price it out on a "Build your own."

 

I searched in a 100 mile radius for both Ford and Chevy and found the same as your did: Thousands of dollars in extras that I would never use until I got lucky and found this near exact LTZ "GM Red-tag" sale 4 miles from me and bought it.

6.2 FTW! I'll gladly pay the extra $5 per tank. Tell me where else are you going to spend $5 and have as much fun. You can tune the 6.2 and run E85 and it works out to be about the same price and mileage as regular.

I had the 2014 with a 5.3. Traded it for the 2015 6.2. Do not regret it one bit. Gas mileage is comprable to the 5.3. Get what you want.

That's why I wanna go to the other different dealers tomorrow & see what I can find. The other dealerships are hour and half away from me. But, I'm gonna try to go.

 

I use to have a 07 with my BB tune. With the new 5.3s while having a BB tune, how much does it compare to a stock 6.2L?

i drove a '16 5.3 and compared to my 6.2 it was night and day. The 5.3 felt like a dog in comparison. the closest thing I can compare my 6.2 to is my '11 LML and even then I think the 6.2 would walk on the 6.6. I also had a tuned vortec max 6.0 and the stock 6.2 would walk that also. I realize they're trucks and blah blah blah, but if you're a Motorhead why not have fun while in your DD truck. Also my 6.2 gets the same if not better mileage than my 5.3. As previously stated if the $5 a tank extra is gonna kill you then you have bigger issues then this motor dilemma.

When I bought my 14 GMC I was at the dealership to buy a leftover Denali. The Denali was a 13 didn't see the much difference in performance. I later realized it's was probably due to reg gas in the 6.2. The 14 had the E85 cap I was really impressed with it on E85 and 15K I saved buying the Texas edition 14.

I've had a 5.3L Sierra, a 5.3L Tahoe, and a 5.3L Silverado. Never had a single complaint about power.

 

Now I have a 6.2L Silverado. It's hilariously awesome.

 

Biggest drawback is the requirement for premium gas over regular, but the MPG is barely any different. On my truck, fully loaded with my wife and three kids and a bed full of luggage and a hard tonneau cover, we just drove almost 3,000 miles in the last two weeks for spring vacations visiting family and friends. I averaged 19.5 MPG for the trip (mostly freeway driving, one really bad traffic jam for 2+ hours in Colorado).

 

Around town in rush-hour commute traffic I get ~16mpg. Best I've ever gotten on a 90 minute late night drive on a 2-lane highway at about 55-65mph was 21mpg.

 

And I don't really drive gently. I floor it more than I should. The 6.2L has hilarious power.

 

But that being said, I like the front ends on the 2016+ ones better, too. Hard to say which makes more difference to you.

 

I will say that you shouldn't make your decision by MPG though. The MPG isn't going to be that different and you're not buying a full sized truck for fuel efficiency right? :)

I had a '14 and '15 crew cab 5.3 both timesw. 3;42 rear. That I would not do again. I went in to get the 6.2 and have been a happy camper since. It is the only way this truck should come. I love the 6.2 and 8 speed 3.23 rear. The trans is not perfect but its good. The motor is great. It tows great too. I get better gas mileage with the 6.2 than the 5.3 which I couldnt believe. The 6.2 is the bomb. I have justified several 5.3's in the past and never again.

6.2 with 49k miles? No thanks, personally I sell them between 60k and 80k and no amount of speed will give me back those 49k miles.

 

If you're not towing over 5000lbs, I'd go new 5.3 and run E85 if speed is a concern to you.

 

That way you don't have to smell the stale aftermath of some other guy's Taco Bell every time you sit down. (and get some bumper to bumper warranty from GM)

That's a type of response I'm looking for man! I really like it. It's a 14 with 49k miles on it. Fully loaded except no sunroof.

I bought my 2014 with 110,000 miles last November haha and got such a good deal even if i do have to put a couple grand into it no big deal. These newer pickups are built so well 49K is nothing in my opinion.

Mine is a shaker, so there's that.. But the 6.2 is just awesome. Better mileage than the 5.3 service loaners I used and significantly more power. I think the only reason they don't just make the 6.2 the standard and let the 5.3 fade away is the premium fuel requirement.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!

      I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
