Can you share your camera make and model ?

I really want to get one but lost on which is best for our trucks

After trying a few cheaper versions of different brands, I'll say that Blackvue is the way to go.

I've got my DR530W-2CH for over 4 years now, while those other ones died the heat stroke after 4-9 months.

The wifi option is a good thing because you don't have to wait until you get home to review the footage.

This is the dash cam I bought.

Has 1080p for both front and rear cams. BlackVue only has 720 for their rear cams.

Video footage can be reviewed via Bluetooth on your smartphone or remove the micro SD card and review on your home computer.

It has a park mode that keeps the cameras monitoring your vehicle after you've shut off your ignition and walked away. It senses people movement and impact.

The downside is it doesn't have a built in monitor but that's due to it's compact size. Makes no difference to me as I have the front cam by the rear view mirror. From where I sit I can't see it anyways.

Unless yours stays on while your truck is off that wouldn't have helped in this situation

Some have parking modes. Mine does. It can be set to time lapse, which take a video at 1fps until you start your truck again, or set to motion detection, which takes a 30 second long video each time it detects motion. It has buffered recording so it will save 10 seconds before it detects motion and 20 seconds after. Thankfully I've never had to rely on it, but I can guarantee that it will pay for itself the first time I'll have to

My DR650s work well in the Jeep and Challenger but the GMC does not keep the battery charged enough to run it very long in parking mode. I think this is the GMC battery charge management system at work.

Same thing happened to my 2017 at a friends wedding.... I don't know if it was at the ceremony or the reception but the next day I noticed a nice big ding and a scuff in the drivers door. PDR pulled the dent out but it still cost me $140 ( fixed a second dent by the door handle that was on the truck when I bought it) but it's still a piss off.

I’m only sharing my friends story..... but he had a car that was his baby and came out of the store to see a nice big red mark on it from the car next to it. It was obvious it was the same car. So he kicked their door and left a small dent. An eye for an eye maybe?

Are you stuck in the 90's? Most have motion and impact sensors now.

And that probably still wouldn't have helped in this case unless it was pointed at the side of the truck.

I've seen it happen a lot in parking lots.

I've witnessed many people open their car doors and hitting the vehicle parked next to them.

The worst offenders are moms in mini vans taking their kids out of the child seats. They swing their car door open as wide as it can go so they can have enough space to take their kids out.

If I'm parked in a parking lot I try to park away from the crowds of cars close to the entrance. That way there's a reduced risk of some other dirtbag hitting my truck with their door.

What peeves me when parking away from other cars is if I return and find some idiot parked next to me. With a parking lot of so many available parking spots why park nect to me?

But that's another discussion...

This. Always the butt head that parks next to you.

I park as far away as I can because the masses don't give a shit about their vehicle. If they did they would be parked out back like me.

I have the new blacksys one. 1080p for front and rear. All wires are under the head liner and run through the Cellink Battery B for parking mode. Lasts a long time so it's not draining the trucks battery

It's unlikely that the person wouldn't have, at one point, driven either in front of or in back of the truck.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
