Factory AT tires with z71 package

Hi Folks, first post hear and had a question to others that have bought their Sierra/Silverado new.  I just picked up a brand new 2018 Sierra SLT w/ z71 package and there was a charge for $200 on the sticker for black sidewall AT tires.  The truck came with Goodyear Wrangler SR-A, which are all-season tires as classified on both Goodyear's site AND the GMC tire selection site.  Anyone else see the same thing or what kind of tires are you guys getting with the z71 package?  Seems a bit misleading getting charged for something you aren't getting and kind of a racket if this is going on across the board.

They've been doing this same thing for years. Those are the standard tires for Z-71 and All-Terrain. You are not the first one to complain about it. Since you already drove the truck home, you can no longer negotiate some better tires. Its up to you to keep them or get rid of them and upgrade as many people do.

The stock rubber is just ok. They are designed for fuel economy on dry roads. But many other options are better for winter/rain/off-road. If you search the forum you'll see about 1,000,000 posts about tires.

Ah, thanks.  It's an open item for the dealer which will either be actual AT tires or a credit for accessories, waiting to hear the final determination.  The dealer was really great to work with and I know it's not on them, it's GM...just I shouldn't be the one left holding the bag.  I wasn't sure if that was a regional thing or what and it's been sooo long since I actually bought something new I had never remembered a charge for tires lol.

I run duratracs on my Wrangler and have had great luck with those.  My friend had those stock on his Silverado and he's liked them too.

That is correct.  Blame CAFE, EPA, etc.  Fuel efficiency dominates, therefore the SR-A becomes an "all terrain" tire option in the name of fuel economy.  The order guide does call it RPO code RBX, P265/65R18 all-terrain, blackwall.  Same with RBW P265/65R18 all-terrain, white outlined letter.

If you want an aggressive tire from the factory, you need the All Terrain X package, or on Chevy the Midnight Z71.  Those get 265/65/18 Duratracs.

My 15 z71 Sierra came with Bridgestone dueler A/T's. I bought it new,I made sure it had those on it and not the Goodyears. I have been very happy with them. They are quite and hook up good in the snow. But i think they  where a $200 dollar option.

Hmmmm..... My 2017 Z71 came with Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude tires and there was a $200 charge on the sticker for white letters.  I have the 18" wheels.

My 2 cents...trade the factory SRA's in on a set of Falken AT3W. I've had these on since October 2017 and I have been impressed. They were fair priced, quiet and perform good in snow.

I’d ask them, i wouldn’t think you would have a $200 charge for the tires.

the sra’s absolutely suck, i’d do what you can not because of the $200, but to get those piece of crap off the truck.

everybody blames it on fuel economy, as if they are more fuel efficient or something. They are just a flat out crappy tire.

They have a 4 star rating on goodyear out of almost 300 reviews, 4.5 stars at discount tire with 90 reviews, 4.1 at walmart and 3.5 stars on Tire rack on over a thousand reviews, wouldn't think they would be crap and junk with that many people reviewing them (should I keep going?). Maybe it is people that give unbiased reviews for what the tire is mostly designed for (on road) while not rating a tire solely for how "cool" it looks?

Are they great, nope, but for 95% of the people on this site they are just fine for a stock tire and better than tires 20 years ago such as uniroyal tires. There are many good choices to upgrade to, ditto with the shocks...

I know this has been covered a thousand times on here but for those who are complaining the other manufacturers do the same thing and most use the SRA's.  My 2002 Z71 also came with street "off-road" tires so nothing has changed.  I am not a big fan of the SRAs in the rain but most of the time they are just fine.  I of course will not get them again, probably go with Cooper AT3's.  I have two sets of them on my last truck and was pleased with them.

As previously stated the SRA is great for most folks performance wise but most don't like the looks. What gets me is if I wanted a mostly on pavement and sometimes off road truck then I would have simply gotten a 4x4. But getting the "z71 off-road package" that comes with tires that can't even get me to the hunting camp or through a wet muddy construction site? Doesn't make sense to me. How much are y'all getting trading in the SRA's? Also no extra charge for my SRA tires.
