Framingham Massachusetts-based Bose has earned the 2018 General Motors Supplier of the Year Award. The award was presented during GM’s 26th annual supplier recognition day in Orlando, Florida this week.

“This is an opportunity for General Motors to honor those suppliers who are truly the best of the best,” said Steve Kiefer, GM vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “The automotive industry is transforming at an incredible rate. The relationships we have with our supply base means everything when it comes to delivering a strong vehicle lineup today and the cutting-edge vehicles and mobility services of tomorrow.”

During the event, GM took time to recognize 132 of its top suppliers from 17 countries. GM’s awards for best supplier go to companies that consistently exceeded GM’s expectations, created outstanding value, or bring new technological innovations to the company. Bose has now earned the top spot in five of the 26 years the award has been presented.

“We have a team of highly dedicated people who support our global work with General Motors, and they make sure our systems consistently exceed expectations,” said Ken Johnson, global director for Bose Automotive’s GM business. “This award is a testament to that commitment and we are incredibly honored by the recognition.”

The privately help Bose company was founded by MIT Professor, Dr. Amar G. Bose, in 1964. However, it wasn’t until the early 1980s that Bose began to provide premium audio to automakers. Dr. Bose approached GM with a surprising proposal; That he and his company could make premium audio for cars that sounded better than the best home systems. Bose pioneered tuning audio systems to specific models, a practice that is now commonplace.

Coincidentally, Bose is headquartered and does much of its manufacturing and research close to GM-Truck’s members’ homes. We have a number of neighbors proud to work at the company, which has a reputation for hiring the best minds in the region. Bose is considered by many to be one of the best places to work in the Northeast.

My wife’s Traverse Bose system is very nice. Awesome clean full sound. Nice job Bose!

I just replaced my factory 5” Bose subwoofer with a JL AUDIO Stealthbox 10” subwoofer.

The factory Bose system sounded good but low end bass was severely lacking especially at mid (1/2) to high volume (3/4)

I left the 4 door and 2 dash speakers Bose and the stock 175 watt Bose amp. Adding the 10” JL sub and 300 watt at 2 ohms JL amp, system sounds perfect now. IMHO.

I like how this stealthbox fit under center console so I didn’t have to sacrifice under rear seat space.

You have the center console w/bucket seats correct? You managed to get that box to fit in the console? If so, that's awesome, I've wanted to upgrade the sub for a while but I too am in the same boat and don't want to sacrifice underseat storage. I have a lot of tools that I carry with me. Did it interfere with the noise cancellation system that the 6.2's come with? Assuming your's is a 6.2. Do you have any more pics?

Yes I have bucket seats. The Stealthbox was specifically made for our trucks. It barely fits. Does not need bolted down like the bose sub. The 8 bolts holding center console hold the JL in place due to its tight fit.

I'm still searching for a way to run my power cable from battery into cab without drilling any new holes. I did test it and it has ALOT more bass. Lots of low end and no more bass fade when increasing volume.

Thank you sir. Looks great.

As far as your wiring issue, this might help.

There’s also a grommet under the drivers side of the truck, goes through the floorboard. Doubt that is enough clearance for a thick power wire though.

Thanks for the tip. I saw that on YouTube (fondupots garage) but I actually ran mine through the passenger fender and popped out the grommet by door harness. I was trying to find a way to not penetrate firewall on my baby lol

Ill have to silicone the penetration. Although my 4 gauge ebay amp wire has more insulation than wire so it would probably never wear through. Lol

I do like how the factory Bose sounds crystal clear even at 100% volume. No distortion whatsoever. I assume they tuned the system to eliminate low frequencies that the amp or speakers can't reproduce when 75% to 100% volume.

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
