They are not removing it from the existing plan.  All vehicles sold after 2015 include the Basic plan free for 5 years.  After that it shuts off and GM never offered a chance to have those features on a lower plan.  They now are adding the "Remote Access" plan that you can buy after your Basic plan expires.  It is $15/month or $150/year.  I actually use it a lot (we have it on 3 GM vehicles we own) but was hoping for around $5/month.

Try getting it for 90 days then call to cancel. Onstar has a habit of offering at at half price when you cancel.

I flipped out on a survey about that recently. GM Legends gave me 20% off anything from GM. I went to buy wheel well covers and of course they were a little over priced but the coupon brought them to $109. So I went to pay for them and they want an additional $100 for shipping. They would deliver to select dealers for free. The closest select dealer was 4 hours away. I bought them on Amazon with free next day shipping for $97.  This was 2 days after paying $42,500 for a new truck.

I made sure I told GM how I felt on Facebook, there survey and the dealers survey.  Onstar is the same way.

OnStar is a joke, especially at that price. If all you need is remote diagnostics and GPS tracking then get https://www.automatic.com/ which has no monthly subscription fee and the GPS tracking is much better than OnStar.

I recently received an OnStar survey and made to let them know how I felt. How do they advertise they have 3 million subscribers? I am assuming they are including all the free trial and free plans? I can't imagine 3 million people paying for this junk. VW car-net at $18 a month is just as terrible.

FYI, if anyone still wants to keep their On Star, they are offering first responder and military discounts if those apply to anyone.

Disable auto update on your phone for this app and NEVER update the app. Like last time they deleted all that with the new update and gave it back after a backlash..  I disabled auto updates on the app so hopefully it will last as long as i can get it for free. No way im paying for any of that service, i'll just go out and start it.

I just my lease not even a month ago. OnStar has been non stop calling, emailing for the last week. So I answered and the woman confirmed there is no 5 years free like my 15’. So yes they are removing the free remote access and want 14.99 a month for it. I told her no thanks. I do buy the unlimited data for $20 a mo. But that is a convenience thing for the wife and kids when traveling with the TT.

Same here, my basic is Active through Feb. 22, 2022.

But I'm currently on the Security plan, which they just dropped to $14.99/month, was $24.99... they sent me an email for the new prices that was available until 6/30. If you just log in normal, that price doesn't show up. Well, it didn't for me, I had to go to the email they sent and click on the link in my email.

I have to say, I use this feature daily at the gym. Keeps pockets free of everything except my phone which I use for music. It's awesome as I don't have to user a locker anymore except when it's real bad in the winter when I wear boots. Nice to be able to remote start the truck so it heats when I'm wrapping up the last workout to give it a few minutes in the new england winters.

That said, there isn't a chance in hell I'm paying $15 for a small convenience like that. Infrastructure like that is rather cheap to run outside of whatever satellite costs are. Same thing with xm, they want over $10 a month for music only in your truck, and thats the plan without some of the special stations and no sports. Get out of town. The ONLY way it makes sense is if you have a long commute and don't have unlimited data or are stuck with a lower GB data plan because they bend you over with overages. Even still with any level of planning pandora/spotify is still a much better deal and more options.

jpinoy, can you post that link you received.  I'd like to see the 'lower' price.

Unfortunately, it is connected to my email address. I sent the link to my wife and she opened it and it opened the link with my email that it was sent to already populated. What you could do is just push the onstar button and let them know you want to take advantage of the lower prices they are offering that ends June 30th. Or call 1.888.4ONSTAR per the email that I got:
