Mexican vs American assembled trucks

Mexican built crewcab,  super lousy paint job , with a lot of exposed orange peel.  Worst paint job in memory.  All else seems fine.

I've now had a Double cab built in the US, a crew cab built in Mexico and a regular cab built in the US. Guess what they all have shitty paint. So did my 2015 Escape and 2016 F150. It doesn't matter where it's built, it's modern waterborne paint, it sucks everywhere.

Have a 2016 Silverado 1500 2wd reg. cab built in Ft. Wayne.  No problems whatsoever.  A little off-topic I wanted to buy in Mexico and made in Mexico same thing but with a manual trans (not available in the U.S.).  Was told there was no way I could cross it and get it registered in the U.S.  What about NAFTA - I thought it was free trade with vehicles Canada/U.S./Mexico?

They lied to you. You can bring it and register it as long as it up to U.S standards and your states emissions laws

When you said your seat popped.  Was it only when you were going around a corner.  Either left or right doesn't matter.  It is very slight and deosnt bother me other than the fact I can feel it.  2017 GMC Denali CCSB Ultimate.   No other peoblems....

When you said your seat popped.  Was it only when you were going around a corner.  Either left or right doesn't matter.  It is very slight and deosnt bother me other than the fact I can feel it.  2017 GMC Denali CCSB Ultimate.   No other peoblems....

I would agree that the only complaint I have are several paint inconsistencies. Other than that, alignment and build quality seem very good for my CC.

Checked this truck out at the dealership today. Quality was good.

Imagine you're recently employed at the Silao plant. What are your work alternatives? You just won the employment lottery. Compare that with a union slug that will file a grievance if he's not allowed to drink beer on break.

 

I'll venture to guess the Mexican assemblers try harder on average. My American built flag ship 2013 Corvette that was a steaming quality control nightmare (complete with different color brake calipers) that was made in a plant that only builds ONE model is a testament to that theory.

My 2010 Mexican CC is very good compared to the same US vehicles. I did not have the cost saving measures of the US ones that caused some issues. For example I got the proper back wall liner and thus NO noise like some made in the US where they tried a new liner (cheaper) that let in more road noise in the CCs that wasn't addressed until a few years later.

I think you are right.  About 8 years ago I was the general contractor on my own home.  You would be hard pressed to find a drywall crew that was not Mexican. Most of the concrete workers too. The guys that did the stone work were Bosnian and not sure what nationality the granite countertop guys were but not American decent.  So who was the hardest working, politest, cleaned up their mess and had the best craftsmanship?  I am embarrassed to say it was not the Americans.  It was an enlightening experience.

 

I am all for keeping jobs in America and building the US workforce but we need to fix our work ethic issues first. "USA quality" means little to me these days.  That is unfortunate.
