Disappointed with 2019

As a previous Ram owner, I’ll tell you that the pics of the inside look beautiful but feel very cheap. The infotainment system never worked right and I hate having a massive screen that controls everything.  I’ve been so impressed with the quality of the Silverado and simple things like the thickness of the doors.

Dude you're so right, I took a Laramie Ram with their 8.4" touchscreen and all bells for a drive and whistles. Sure it looks good but the the quality doesn't feel any higher than the GM. Both GM and Ram feel higher quality than Ford anyway. Ford's been behind the 8 ball a while now with the quality of the interior of the F series, which is fine if it's a work truck but not so great if it's your daily driver.

I also agree with the screen thing. I like that GM kept the interior simple and ergonomic and gave us buttons and switches for the main controls instead of burying them in a touch screen. It's a very nice place to sit compared to even my 2017. Also I thing GM has the best infotainment system overall right now, easy to use, sharp graphics, legible fonts, good color choices and no lag.

Well seems as good a place for any for a first post from Alberta, Canada...

Getting real close to pulling the trigger on a new 2019 AT4 and just wondering what some of the more knowledgeable folk on here think of the truck. Going for a pretty well loaded model, with the off road performance pack etc.

This has been a great thread so far. Anything I should really be looking out for?

Kind-of stumbled into a truck purchase despite never really being a truck guy. Got a JK wrangler right now for my utility/winter vehicle and feeling like a need a bit more space with a new dog and closing on a lake cottage next week. Was originally thinking about a gladiator ( I know I know...) but I can get into a loaded AT4 that can actually do truck things for less money so here I am.

Down the line being able to launch a boat would be nice but for now it’s mostly going to be carting furniture from the city to the cottage as well as basic landscaping etc. so I’m definitely buying more truck than I need but can’t say no to some of these incentives...

cheers guys!

Nothing is going to be perfect.

But, I think you'll be glad you got that AT4.

I know I couldn't be any happier with my Silverado (19)

My brother in law  has a 2017 F250 Cree Cab and my cousin a 2015 Dodge Ram Crew Cab.

Both nice trucks, but I just love the Silverado.

The GMC AT4 would be an awesome buy imo.

What's the heaviest you think you'll tow? These trucks ride really well and have all the creature comforts. Nothing to really lookout for other than the following.

1. Install a catch can to prevent any carbon deposits on the intake valves. Check out Elite Engineering, I use their e2-x can with the clean side separator. It goes for over $400 usd but well worth it to protect your investment.

http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/e2-x-catch-cans/

2. Get an Auto Stop Eliminator from https://www.autostopeliminator.com/collections/autostop-eliminators-for-gm-vehicles

It plugs in behind the autostop start switch in your dash using the factory wiring harness connectors (no splicing or cutting)

You'll still be able to engage the autostop start if you want but it makes it so the default setting when you start your truck is disabled. Autostop is really hard on your engine, I'd personally install it and never think about it.

3. Disable your AFM/DFM with a tune to keep it running on all 8 cylinders. I got an 87 octane tune from Diablosport and disabled AFM and my truck woke right up and I still get the same fuel economy. The main benefit is that you won't have premature lifter wear or excessive oil consumption issues as AFM is known to cause. If your lifters seize you're looking at over $1000 to replace them, and more than likely you powertrain warranty will already be up. If you're afraid of voiding your warranty Diablosport and Range Technology are both working of an OBDII Dongle that you plug in that keeps it running on 8 cylinders, neither company has released theirs yet but they'll be out soon.

Let us know if you have more questions! AT4 is a great choice, you definitely won't regret it. Oh yeah, Berta represent [emoji869]

Wow great advice thanks! Disabling the start stop is a big one. First button I press in cars that have it. Might as well do a delete I agree.  I’ll live with a few litres of gas over a nasty repair. I will definitely be going with a 6.2 as well because why not haha.

Probably never going to need more than 7-8000lb towing realistically ( maybe a double seadoo trailer in a year or 2, small ski boat or a pontoon boat way down the line but that’s a big if )

Anyone on here hate their AT4? I’m always interested in the other side of the coin, I never pretend a car is perfect.

I actually made a profile to respond to you.

I also live in Alberta Canada. Looking around for at4 (little worried about talk of the Rancho shocks) which makes me want a Denali. They are harder to find in the color I want.

Also for price...are you looking to just do the Costco preferred pricing or are you getting a better deal than that? I'm not a totally serious buyer as I am waiting for 2020 goodies (mainly adaptive cruise), but it seems that nobody wants to shoot for deals lower than what incentives take the price down to.

Have you had any luck with competitive pricing?

Thanks

If you can hold out for a 2020 they're going to have adaptive cruise! If you can live without that get a good deal on a 19. Also make sure you're happy with the driving position. GM got rid of the height adjustable front shoulder belts and the power adjustable pedals. I'm 6'1" and found it overall more ergonomic than my 17 but if you have a strange body you may find the pedals too far/close or the seatbelt likes to dig into your neck. I could also imagine the power release tailgate being annoying if you get a flat battery (happens up north) as there's no manual way to open it. Mind you just look at how many 99-06 GM's are driving around without tailgate handles because they're cheap junk [emoji38]

Have you had a chance to drive a 2019 with the Ranchos? Way smother ride that the 14-18 body style, I have 80,000km (50,000miles) on my Ranchos and they're still fine other than being too stiff, no leaks or major corrosion.

Take one for a ride! In my oppinion, the ride quality is greatly improved.

Perhaps the Elevation edition I drove had something wrong with it. 1200 miles, iirc and my 4000 mile 2018 Z71 rides considerably better. I was shocked how bad the 19 rode.  Had a terrible rattle in the back too, seemed to come from the very loose tailgate.

Both had the same tire size, 275/60r20

Weird, I may have to go back and drive another truck, but I remember it being really smooth!

I had emailed Rangetechnology about if theirs would disable both the AFM and the start/stop. This was their reply:

"The AFM Disabler is compatible and should disable the AFM and the start/stop for you.

Please be sure to order directly from our website (www.rangetechnology.com) in order to get the latest and greatest firmware which you will need to work on a 2019 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss."

So from that I would say it's been released but there's always the chance the rep didn't pay attention to the year...

Adaptive cruise would be great. I inquired about it today and my sales rep went radio silent on me haha.

I took one for a spin and it was pretty great. They will need to bring one to me to get my suite of options. I am not in a giant hurry though as its more of a fun purchase for me than a true need as it is... Not sure what to expect from the Ranchos, i only took it for a test drive in the city so thats not really representative. I was pretty happy with the ride overall though.

As for the other comment yea its the costco invoice +1.5% less $2650 cash incentives. Trying to see if they can be creative and layer anything else on for me but that's still pretty good pricing. Pricey truck though.
