2024 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Sedan

1.2 liter triple MPFI Solid roller.

JATCO JF015E CVT transmission.

12,965 Miles

2 Quarts Red Line Non-slip CVT fluid. (83 % fluid exchange)

Subjective notes. This is my first CVT and as it is impossible to know what you don't; my ignorance prevented me from realizing just how poorly these things can work and still be 'Okay' according to the OEM. Operational quality is very much improved. Smoother. More responsive. Less (None now) complaining getting up to speed. Secondly, does anything smell as foul as CVT fluid? New or used this stuff stinks. Both brands. Yuck :puke:

Objective notes: This fluid has a pronouncedly lower -40C Brookfield Viscosity and this is very noticeable on sub 32 F/ 0C days. An absolute game changer. 😱

Comment: After further poking around in the woodpile I see that AMSOIL CVT fluid has an even lower -40 C Brookfield and a fractionally higher 100 C viscosity. I don't know that it is enough different from Red Line Non-Slip CVT to get an additional noticeable step change as I did moving from Mitsubishi fluid. But, it would also be a solid choice and an marginally larger change from the Mitsubishi fluid.

I pause here for a bit. It would take the same amount of fluid to reach 99.1%.

That is some crazy die they use in the Mitsubishi fluid. Never did turn RL Yellow but it did lighten and clarify.

I watched an interesting YouTube oil change topic. The results was 5K oil changes with 30K flushing. He claims the softer ring tension along with higher interval oil changes have to do with carbon credits. The transmission changes are considered too. The target is 100K miles. They figure most people would be trading by then. They can blame the used car problems on lack of care to the original owner. Then there’s Valvoline restore and protect. That’s an interesting one. So far none  of my high mileage stuff uses oil. Even the abused Odyssey with its 10K oil changes until I got it.

2021 Ram TRX

Transfer case oil change. Last done at 600 miles. This interval was 24,361 miles. Installed 2 quarts Ravenol BW44. True synthetic PAO-based product made in Germany specifically for this application. Bottles came with scratch tickets on the back but don’t think I won anything. 😂IMG_0647.thumb.jpeg.4db86c1299210db9d6a0fcf7844c3186.jpeg

Here is my latest used oil analysis. For us we can't go very long and will not go by the OLM. Seems 4k oil changes are the max due to such high fuel dilution. We do mostly short trips and run on electric for the most part. Before I changed the oil, I did run it down and ran mostly on the engine on the interstate for 20 miles to get the oil good and hot.
