I had the same issue yesterday. Went to pull out of the gas station and I had to push my foot as hard as I could to come to a stop. Hardly any brakes. I had the same error messages shown in the pictures in this forum. My truck is at the dealership. They called and told me it was a faulty master cylinder. I've only had the truck a few months. Brand new 2019 GMC AT4. They said the part is on backorder and they have no idea when they will get it in. They said with the strike there are a lot of parts on backorder. I called GM Headquarters to report the issue. It is important to get this issue documented to have a recall put in motion! I urge everyone to call GM headquarters to report the issue! I also urge everyone to file a report on www.safercar.gov because they will investigate and if they have enough complaints they can make the recall happen.

11/8/19  -  I picked up my truck today. Everything has been fixed. There was a delay getting the replacement part which I believe to be due to the strike. I'm sure this is issue is going to end up being a recall. It all depends upon how many people call and report it. If you have to wait for your truck longer than a month, you definitely should call GM Headquarters and have them open a case. When your truck is finally fixed, they can offer you compensation for your loss.

This just happened to me too!  I have a 2019 LT crew cab, 3200 miles on it, no codes or lights came on.  What the hell, I had my daughter in the truck with me and it’s Halloween! I could have hit a kid!   I came right home and I just decided to google this and I found this.  I‘m reporting this to the dealer first thing tomorrow morning because this is definitely a malfunction.  I hope mine works the next time I start it because I am home now and I haven’t driven it again.

We bought a new 2019 Silverado on Monday night. Wednesday night we had the brake system failure issue. And it wasn’t a faulty warning, we didn’t have any brakes. Tried backing out of the parking space and we had to roll to a stop. No response from brakes. They towed it and did the usual reprogramming a few of you spoke of.

after you had the reprogramming done did it happen again? Or was it just a one time issue for you?

Mine has now been in the garage 77days today. Owned it for 78 days. Good luck because GM is not going to do anything except deny. 3rd car payment and drove it 1 day.

Have you reported yours to NHTSA? If not, it is very quick and easy. I did mine on the phone and it took maybe 5 minutes and absolutely no hassle.

I did about 75 days ago. Have not heard anything since.

Got my truck back yesterday and they reprogrammed the brakes and told me that should have taken care of the problem and that they couldn’t replicate it.  I’m not happy with “Should” and quite honestly this will be the last GM vehicle I ever buy.

making a report with the NHTSA will help the government force GM to recall. GM is known for failing to issue recalls until the issue causes a fatality. They just bury the problem. So by doing this it doesn’t leave the decision up to GM.

I also don’t know how tech savvy y’all are but also complain on Twitter. I’ve been tweeting and harassing their twitter accounts (@chevytrucks and @chevrolet and @gm) since this happened. They can’t control what people see on Twitter like they can through other social media outlets. If enough people do that other people will start taking notice. You can also tag the NHTSA in tweets (@NHTSAgov), it makes Chevy nervous.

we truly were just a mere 5 minutes from getting on the interstate with our baby in tow. In Fort Worth, during evening traffic. It was also pouring down rain. Had we gotten on the interstate and it happened it would have been tragic. This issue should have been fixed long before I ever bought my truck had GM done the right thing and issued a recall when these problems started happening back in January. So I’m pissed.

The lawyer for the dealership said in a letter I don’t know what the problem is we are giving him a vehicle to ride. Mine only had 273 miles on it when the brake failure happened. It has been in the garage 77 out of 78 days and the lawyer said it SHOULD fix my problems when they get it fixed. Who wants to take a chance on SHOULD?

My truck has been in the shop for about a month now and the part has come in says the dealer yesterday so I am waiting on them to put the master cylinder and brake booster on

Honestly, I would open a claim with GM (if you already have not) and go through the process of a buy back.

Personally, I would not let the future of my truck be in the hands of any branch of our government. And pissing off a global giant may not be the best route, if they even care about your posts.

How is your relationship with the dealership at this point? They can be your biggest asset in getting out, or having the truck fixed.

Have gone through both a "trade allowance" and a "buy back" since 2014, and it is not fun, but it is an end to the means.

I don’t know how here were my codes that popped up. I have arbitration set up on the 18th. I don’t know what codes the rest had. I didn’t take a picture of all my instruments panel lights on such as engine etc.

I had total brake failure on August 23rd and noticed the dealership immediately. I filed a complaint with GM on the 24th and have been fighting since. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA, Attorney General and BBB.   I have been on social media and finally have arbitration scheduled on November 18. I don’t think there is a win, win situation. They want to depreciate my vehicle with 273 miles.

Well mine did it again, happened back in January and they replaced the master cylinder, all seemed good until this evening.  When I started truck there was a popping noise coming from somewhere behind the steering area, had never heard this before. When I put it in gear the noise quit and dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Bout smoked two deer on way home because of very little brake.

Depreciation happens the moment you drive it off the lot.  It goes from new to used at that point.  You won't be able to change that.

    • You need a better code reader/scanner.  You are missing codes.  Did the dealer give you a copy of the SAVI scan from that visit?     If the fluid hasn't been changed, change it.  Shudder will likely go away.
    • TLDR to my other post...   Hard. Pass.  Too many what ifs.     Are you set on a 3.0 Duramax?  Have you considered anything not GM just in case?  If you don't have to have a pickup, lots of other options for $27,000 out there.
    • I see some red flags.   - No mention in the Carfax if the oil pump belt was changed.  LM2s had a 150,000mi service interval, and its got 164,245mi on it.  So right out the gate it needs about $3000-3500 for that to be done before driving it another 150,000mi.  Belt is at the rear of the engine.     - If something happens to the transmission valve body, the special coverage is expired by mileage.  That will likely be an out of pocket expense, with zero or near zero GM participation if something happened even though its in by time.   - 2020 LM2s seem to need timing chains after 80,000mi at some point.  They fixed this end of 2020/starting 2021 model year engines.  They will usually set a P0016 I think?  There is another $8000-10,000 if it needs a chain.  The main chain is at the back, secondary at the front so the pump belt would be done at the same time if it needed chains.     - Long oil change intervals.  7,000-8,000mi on average, probably close to 0% or perhaps to or beyond 0% on the OLM.  Lots of them not at the dealer which makes me wonder how much of the oil ran through that truck was the proper Dexos D rated 0w20 oil and not just gas engine 0w20, which is not the same at all.     - Long fuel filter changes, again likely taking the fuel filter life to 0% or more.  First one went 28,603, second was done 43,094 miles later at 71,697, from there another 46,452mi to 118,149mi, and then the most recent one 37,026mi later at 155,175mi.  So counting its original fuel filter, its had only 4 fuel filters on it.  No bueno IMO.         Good news?    - It has had only two warranty trips to the dealer.  The first free service (end of December 2020 on the Carfax), and the transmission reprogram recall (end of August 2025 on the Carfax).     - Truck did a LOT of moving, so that might explain the lack of emissions related repairs like bad NOX sensors, bad exhaust temp sensors, bad glow plugs, etc.         The "emissions system checked" could just be how something was flagged for Carfax.  GM dealers have to do SAVI reports for warranty repair orders so they scan the truck.  So its possible that is there for that?
    • Thank you, @Z45!   NOTE - No all repair shop/Dealers reports to Carfax   That is my main concern.  The CARFAX looks way too clean for a 6 year old anything with 164,245 miles.  Even something known for reliability (like many Toyotas) typically has a lot more replaced, like a Nav screen, interior trim, shock/strut, or brake pads.  And surely the last set of tires (installed at ~58k miles) would be bald unless those were all highway miles.   I'm tempted to pay a local dealer to look up the VIN, but am not sure if that will be worthwhile.  Last time I did this, it was 100% useless, and I felt scammed - they noted the bumper was replaced years ago and that's it.  A 5-year old could spot the accident damage, even though nothing was on the CARFAX.   After giving the dealer a call, the truck may have a hard shift, but they have to verify with their mechanic if that's even a concern.  And I've test driven about a dozen of these now, many near Chicago, and half the trucks shift hard/odd at all throttle positions.  The ones with aftermarket lifts/larger tires shift terrible, and 3 stock trucks shifted so violently I thought the transmission valve body was going out.   At this point I'm conflicted, as I need a vehicle, and am coming up short locally.  Northern trucks in this price range tend to have either multiple owners, a lot of mods (lifts/oversized tires without re-gearing), and are generally in rougher shape.   If this truck showed up in your neighborhood for $27k and you had to purchase it sight-unseen, with the possibility of needing a 10L80 rebuild, torque converter, or rear end - would you do it?  I'm convinced most of the 10L80 trucks I test drove are broken, they can't all shift so bad, with massive flares/slipping/lurching and mis-matched downshifts like a teen driver learning stick.
    • From the spy shots, the front end does look like it's borrowing some styling cues from the Canyon. I'm more interested in the powertrain news than the screens though. If the 3.0 diesel survives into the next generation, that alone will keep a lot of current owners interested.
