I appreciate your opinion Jacob, but literally thousands of Chevy folks with 5 star reviews disagree.  You COULD be right, but I'd rather try it out and see for myself.

I work thankfully at a company who deals with 5 STAR TUNING, so naturally i gravitated towards them for assistance. They advised to me to sell my Edge and purchase their SCT BDX tuner with their 3 custom tunes.

I made my money back on the Edge and purchased their offer.

I have an 89 Eco, 89 Performance/Tow and a 91 Performance ( which I am currently on)

And I am not BSing you its a insane difference on the drive ability of the truck the shift points are in their perfect spots for normal driving, Im always in the right gear based on speed. Am I a Ferrari? Hell no,  Is it a slow truck? Hell no!  Perfect for what I am doing for my everyday needs.

This is just my .02 I can't speak if a Diablo canned tune is good or not, or even Diablew. I just know my setup is perfect for me and I thank the guys at 5 Star Tuning for changing this truck.

Can you elaborate any on what the preloaded tunes are on the SCT BDX?

I note the 'stock' BDX is $399, and the 5-Star BDX (with three of their custom tunes) is $499 with additional tunes $10 each...just curious what a standard unit gets somebody.

I've had my eye on the BDX in comparison to a Blackbear or Diablew...nice to see more feedback on it.

Did the 5Star SCT X4 Friday. Actually I drove down and they did it. Had the 89 Perf/tow,89 Econ, and 93Perf/tow tunes loaded. AFM turned off. On the way home I got, and continue to get, about 17.5MPG. Truck runs and drives like it should. Plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of power at the stoplight. Shifts nice and firm like it should and the motor winds out before upshifting. And doesn't have to drop down 3 or 4 gears to go uphill. Passing takes a slight pressure on the pedal. It's night and day. THIS is what the truck should have been off the lot.

Long tubes and exhaust are next.

It’s your money, go nuts.

Its just odd to me that a guy (Diablew) who makes his living selling tuners and selling custom tunes for GM vehicles exclusively for DiabloSport doesn’t even offer the Predator for sale. I know why because I asked him about the Predator. You’d think if it was a good option then he would offer it. I mean a smart business man would have every option available to his customers so he could have every possible source of income right. Think about it. You started a thread in a forum and got up to this point 4 positive reviews about Diablew and merely a mention of the Predator (from someone who doesn’t even own one and simply suggested it) yet still went with the Predator. Odd

Also if you could point me in the right direction, I’d like to see these “thousands” of 5 star reviews. I mean there’s only 26 on Diablos own website lol. I couldn’t find more than around 100 reviews on the tuner I have from multiple sources and you found thousands!!!!!  Maybe I bought the wrong tuner lol!

either way good luck. Hope it all works out for you. I mean a tune is better than no tune right

It was my understanding too that the Predator could not load custom tunes but it looks like their newer model  may.  When I was in the market, Diablo recommended the InTune for what I wanted and I thought at that time, it could not handle custom tunes.  When I posted earlier, someone said it could, so I revised my post.

This link from Diablo shows a comparison chart.  The Predator P2 shows it can handle CMR custom tunes but lacks many other features such as "spark/fuel/tuning".

The difference between the two can mean the difference between a screwed up truck and one that is not.  If a novice like me purchased a full blown tuner and goes in and starts tweaking crap that he doesn't understand, that spells trouble.  I opted to go with the predator because it seems to be more "beginner friendly", and the things that can get me in trouble aren't even available.  Your logic makes sense, but I just wanted a simple tuner that I could screw around with, find out what best suits me, and maybe learn a few things in the process...and if I fail miserably, I can still just have Diablo write me a custom tune and quit while I'm ahead.

HP Tuners all the way, if you don't know what your doing thats fine Just purchase premade tune and load with HPtuner, but you can still adjust simple stuff like , gear ratio, fans, closed loop temp, etc., etc.. , everything the cheapo tuners can do but more!  you still have more room to grow with HPtuners...the  other hand held units are fixed and wont take you far.. $600, and it also dose full vehicle diagnostic scanner function.

I do not know how the stock tunes are. I didn't bother since I got the 3 custom tunes. But I know there is ability to change alot of parameters. Spark advanced, WOT timing, so much more that you can get into some serious mechanical trouble if you dont know what you are doing, hence why I didn't :dunno: you may have more knowledge than me in that department.

Bad ass, I wonder if yours is miles different then mine since they through yours on the dyno. I seriously love driving my truck now because of the tune.

No dyno time. Your tune is likely the same as mine. They simply loaded the tunes and showed me what it was.  They told me that dyno time wasn’t necessary and likely a waste since my truck was bone stock their custom tunes would be all I needed or could use right now. One the exhaust and blower go on......then we spend the $$$$ for dyno time.

Sorry if I mis-lead.

No misleading, i figured they would of thrown it on the dyno, but thats good, you obviously like the tune? Way different right?  Im jelly that youre getting a blower, that would be nice to have for sure.

I am considering long tubes...

Yeah....this truck should have come like this....or at least as a "performance" option.  The long tubes and exhaust will be next but that may take a couple of months to save up some cash. Once that's done then we can start saving for the supercharger.

But of course the MB is in the shop with a forked trans and that repair bill could sink that for this year:sick:

Just bought a intune 3 platinum from Lew at Diablew for my 2018 GMC Sierra 6.2. I sent in the required logs and he sent me the tunes I requested and all I can say is WOW!  :)  That will put a serious smile on your face. Lew knows what he is doing and his service is tops.  He has reviews from other users on the Silverado/sierra site, just look at them, . I have used BDX on a f%$d from 5Star and they were great. But for my GM Products Lew is the man to try, I do not think you will be sorry.  Just my $.02.

I actually JUST sent my logs over to Lew and waiting for them to be sent back.  I was already impressed with the canned tune, cant wait to see what difference his custom tune makes.  Thanks for the input.

tim5779   I don't think you will be disapointed. Lew Really took my old, New truck away and gave me a new new truck. Really woke it up and made it drive like it should.   Soooo much different than before Lew took care of it.

Take care and waiting to hear how it goes.
