This is not an oil change discussion thread. Try to keep on topic. Plenty of these threads out there right now

 

Change the oil on your schedule, not the dealers

Scary moment last night on the way home. I've put about 125 miles on the truck since getting it back. I just got off the highway and the replacement engine stalled out on the off ramp. It shut off with the stop/start function (there was a lot of traffic) and then when I took my foot off the brake it turned off and all the electronics in the cab went dark. I put it in neutral and it took 10 seconds or so for the truck to start. It started hard but then pretty quickly was running normally again. No problems the rest of the way home or again this morning.

 

Not sure what would have caused it, but it sure is concerning so soon after getting it back from engine replacement. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

If it happens again, take video.  Im sure something wasn't put back in and is shorting out or whatever.

I would bring it back and tell them your family does not feel safe in it and you don't want it back until they can duplicate the issue and fix it

Also there is a bulletin #pip5620 - no crank after an auto stop event

Just got some good news from my dealer.  Truck was fixed with rebuilt engine and new starter last week but I have been calling and emailing the GM and Corporate Director's at the dealership for a new truck based on everything that happened with my Trail Boss.  They are going to get me into a new truck for the cost of a truck payment.  GM is offering nothing in the deal.  I'll take it after over a month of this BS.

It's going back in today. This morning it unlocked but the power running step didn't deploy. All the cabin electronics were dead and it wouldn't start. Then, as I was headed back to the house to swap keys for another car, it came to life and sounded the vehicle alarm. I started it, but all the memory settings were gone and the truck asked me to lower and raise first the driver window and then the passenger window. 

 

Then, upon driving it, it blacked out and turned off again with an auto stop/start cycle. After 10 seconds or so power comes back on, window up/down routine again, and away I went.

 

I am so beyond frustrated. GM is getting this thing back.

Wow. All I can say is Wow. I would not talk with anyone but the service manager and request to meet with the regional district rep to discuss the buy back.

Just read thru this whole thread, sounds like a handful of owners, in the grand scheme of things, have had oil cooler line failures. I would figure a bad batch of lines from the vendor. To the gentleman who had the rebuild over a new motor, would be a perfectly fine repair if you removed human error. Good technician...good repair, hack tech...Cobb job?

For the record my 9/18 5.3 Ft Wayne truck shows no sign leakage or line distortion at 6500 miles. There are green inspection stripes on my hoses as well.

I assume the affected trucks have the yellow stripe showing from the factory?  Checked mine tonight, but I do not see any stripes - wondering if this means the lines/crimps are safe?

The experience with this oil cooling line and motors running out of oil is scary. It happened to me and now I always keep an eye on oil pressure gauge ? yup the trust is lost

Unfortunately this is the new norm in the auto industry.

Quality seems to go down while prices go up. Does not seem to make any sense at all.

2020 Tahoe, Yukon and Suburban will eclipse the 100K mark and I bet they will be built with the same inferior parts  :sigh:
