Has anyone had a successful resolution of the brakes issue following recall? Meaning, you did the update, then lost power assist to the brakes, and then the dealership was able to restore normal functionality? Or are all these owners driving around in loaners at the moment?

Mine is at the shop right now.  Dropped it off this morning.  They didn't even have any loaners for me to drive even though I told them I would need one when I made the appointment.  Nobody at GM cares about the problems these trucks have or the danger it puts the owners in.  I have been on the phone with everybody as far up as corporate and as far down as the local dealership.

I have a contact that's an engineer at GM's truck division; works on the Canyons and Sierras specifically. Spoke with him about it and he is of the opinion the trucks are doing what they're designed to do when there is an error in the way the updates are conducted. I tend to believe him as he's been a great resource in the past and usually right on the money on prior issues and fixes. I'll send him a link to this thread.

I'm sorry to say, but this means almost NOTHING!  I called as well a couple of weeks ago and they assigned me a "case agent/Adviser".  After listening to her read a script and expressing her "Deep Apologies" I asked her if she worked for GM or Chevy.  She said she was just a call center, but is very happy to assist me with my repairs.  She called me twice over two weeks of my truck being in the shop.  Both times to let me know exactly what the dealer told me a day earlier - NO UPDATES.  But they are keeping my case priority due to the severity of the issue.  It's been a few days since I have heard from my "Case Agent/Adviser".  My dealer sent me a text today letting me know that they still have me on their radar.  They do not have a new update from technical assist at this time.  I continue to try all avenues of communication with GM or Chevy.  I have sent them  tweets and Direct Messages only to have them tell me to continue working with my "Case Agent/Adviser".  If you have any luck with  your adviser, please update us...

I just received a call from my "Case Agent/Adviser" (After a week of no communication) letting me know that she has no updates for me.  She told me that she has tried to contact my Chevy Dealer Service adviser to get updates but has been unable to get a hold of anyone.  She assured me that she has utilized all her resources and will continue to try and reach someone at my Chevy Dealer.  ARE YOU SERIOUS?  You are both working for the same company - how can you NOT get a hold of anyone to get an update on my truck?  Is this really the level of support we are given for this?  Unbelievable.  Complete waste of time.  Basically, these Agents are Pawns for GM.  They are buffers between decision makers & customers - time wasters.

I just got a call from dealer on my 2019 High Country that is in for the same brake, CEL, lane assist, etc. issues reported here. Shop foreman advised the issue originates when you use the app or key FOB to remote start the vehicle. When they did the recall update there was a bug somewhere that they haven't figured out that is causing the issues. Expected timeline for a software fix is 2 weeks, meantime they say don't use the remote start........living in Canada.......in January. First world problems, but expecting to get what you paid for isn't unreasonable.

I started a Chevy guy, switched to Dodge for 9 years and last year came back to Chevy. Starting to question my decision for sure.....

Just got the same call. They reset the brake update, asked me to remote start from the app, and the problem reappeared. Then they reset it again and told me not to use the app to start it until they have new software.

Interesting.  I had all the recalls done, and when I picked it up lost all the lane keep and collision and pedestrian braking stuff.  Those functions started to come back on their own slowly during the last two weeks, with only the lane keep still not working.  I use the remote and app start daily from my house and office.  Yesterday after app starting the truck I got in and had all the errors pop up and CEL stay on.  Drives fine but the CEL is stuck on now.  Dealer emailed me back today for an appointment.  Hopefully this next trip they can resolve the lane keep, wonder if they will tell me not to use the app or remote start.

Sean, did the say anything about using/not using the key FOB to remote start?

Nope, just the app. But maybe I'll refrain from both. This did pop up after an app start.

Knock on wood...dealer reprogrammed mine and bled brakes on Dec.27th. They said they did what GM told them to do. So far I have put on about 1500km and it hasn’t resurfaced.

$&@@ [emoji2959] it just started with the brake warnings/issues again.

Weird, 2500km since they did their reprogram on Dec.27th and I only start it by app or fob and this is the first time it did it...I thought it was finally fixed. Dealer is offering to bring me a loaner and pick up my truck - I hated the 2018 loaner but don’t trust this thing if my wife or daughter is driving.

Can not believe they haven’t figured this out. Beyond frustrated at this point.

DenaliDonkey has reported that his dealership showed him a email between the Tech and GM stating there was a problem with his brakes and it was unsafe and to keep him in a loaner until they figure out what is wrong with the software. He also stated that his Chevy My App is not performing the remote start on  his vehicle and that the service is not available

Just to follow up on this... he tells me they have some sort of over the air software patch/update that will be sent directly to trucks that took the brake update. Starting tonight and continuing on. Will see.

There have been 3 recalls on  my 2019 Silverado so far this year.  The first was a seat belt issue that could cause a fire.  The other two were loose alternator cable & brake system issues.  I just received the attached letter from Chevy alerting me of the seat belt recall that was back in November.  As you can read in this letter, they are "Concerned about your safety and continued satisfaction with our products".  Really??  This recall was 2 months ago and has already been taken care of.  The REAL SAFETY concern they should be worried about is the lack of brakes in their trucks!  Where is the communication on this??  I am so disappointed with GM/Chevy.

Does anyone know of a number to call to open a case with the organization that administers "The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act"?

I just filed a complaint with: NHTSA - National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Feel free to do the same here: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/?

I filed a complaint with them as well, I am also pursuing MD state Lemon Law with them. Considering there is currently no fix for a brake issue I am beginning the long process of a buy back.

    • consider doing electrical testing?  I would guess some power or ground wire/connection has a problem.   alldata.com has wiring diagrams, connector pinouts and diagnostic procedures you can use to find where the problem is.
    • can you tell if the reader is actually trying to get codes, and the pcm is reporting none, or is your reader just silently failing because it's not communicating with the pcm?
    • Any joy with this truck seems to be short-lived.   The CEL for P0172 ("bank 1" too rich) is now "intermittent".   I'm not sure where to check, or re-check, and my energy to keep chasing problems with junk is wearing thin. The P0172 seems to set as I'm coming to a stop, completely off the throttle, when fully warm. At least, that's what it's done the 3? times it's set.   Everything appears normal on the scanner EXCEPT long term fuel trim. There's only one bank on this vehicle because it's an OBD 1.5 with only one upstream O2 sensor. At idle, it's around -16.4% and will dip to -18% occasionally at idle or off-throttle. LTFT approaches 0 when throttle is held at 2500rpm. Short term appears normal, much closer to zero all the time. The LTFT tells me the engine is running rich at idle but compensating at higher load. But, why?   The EVAP purge valve doesn't appear to be leaking/sucking fuel vapor continuously. Is it sticking just as I come to a stop and the engine is choking on fuel vapor and sets the P0172? But that doesn't explain the persistently negative LTFT. Disconnecting the purge valve doesn't seem to make any difference.   I suppose that leaves another dang issue with the fuel injector. A leaking fuel pressure regulator, a new leak in the spider, or a leaking fuel injector/poppet valve I didn't see, or a small crack in one of the spider legs.   The vacuum line leading to the fuel pressure regulator doesn't have raw fuel in it. It doesn't even smell like fuel when it's pulled off, not until you suck air through it, then you can tell it leads to a fuel component. I'd consider that normal? Nothing is signaling this is a FPR issue from the outside, at least.   The oil smells like fuel but it's not building volume. I've noticed most oil in most engines smells like fuel to some degree so it's hard to say if the smell is an issue or not. Or if the engine just still smells like fuel because the crankcase was full of it a few hundred miles ago. But it's been changed twice since that original issue of the leaking fuel line dumping fuel into the intake.   Patience is running very thin. Every win seems to be accompanied by two steps backwards, or another issue that leads to removing at least the top half of the intake manifold. Enough! LOL
    • First off you mentioned "Toyo Says" and then gave the pressures 45/50, was this some person at the tire shop that pulled those numbers out of his head ?   Now of course I can't know your exact axle weights front and rear, however I have much the same pickup as yourself other than not knowing your starting weight as per the pounds the truck rolled out of the factory at due to the options yours did or didn't come with or what you have added beyond the extra tire weight. The correct way to know 100% where a person is at is by weighing each axle with the typical weight the vehicle is driven with and that means taking into account passengers and making sure you figure in a full tank of fuel and a little grace for whatever you may put in the bed "groceries" !    I am looking at and not that it really matters as all the tire companies use the same charts anyway, but I am looking at the comprehensive Toyo tire chart in the section that your tire falls under and I know it sounds confusing but your tire is not an LT metric tire like your factory tire but instead because its a standard inch measured tire its under a different category called an LT floatation series tire. That makes a difference as LT metric tires they don't want to see run below 35 psi at highway speed where as with the LT floatation series it can be run down to 25 psi on the highway as long as the weight on the said size of tire is agreeable with or less than that minimum 25 psi. It blows many people away that how is this physically possible, an empty truck for one thing and larger tires with the same size wheel diameter have a lot more air volume so they can carry the same weight as the smaller tire with less air pressure.    So my truck, I have the stock 275/65R20 wheels and tires and I have a bit of weight in the box with a bak flip cover and a rubber bed mat and some tools and spare gas. The front of my gas truck weighs a bit more than some trucks of the similar spec due to double batteries and alternators. However with full fuel and just me in the truck I am weighted such that I can run 40 front and 35 rear and so that is what I have done since day one.    If I base your truck at or slightly below the weight of my truck, in theory with your tires going by the tire chart you might be right around a minimum of 30 pounds front and 25 pounds rear. Of course that would hit pretty much minimum cold inflation pressure one could run with that tire size and a near empty truck. If you have access to an accurate weigh scale to do individual front and rear axle weights I would suggest you do that and make sure your topped up with fuel and whatever else in the truck before you weigh it and then you will have a great starting point to work off of and figure out what your bare minimum pressures are you can safely run. If you do much in the way of hot weather high speed driving, bumping up a bit for a safety margin is never a bad idea but just depends on what type of driving you do. I will include the Toyo chart and the floatation series sizes start on page 31. Without a doubt at these pressures I am speculating at minimum wise for your truck, it would most certainly ride very different then it did when you were using 55 lb front and rear.     https://www.toyotires.com/media/pxcjubjs/application_of_load_inflation_tables_20200723.pdf
