2 New recalls

I had the recalls performed on 12/31.  When I left the dealership, I didn't notice anything not working correctly as I was more concerned about the brake module failure and any unusual warning lights on the dash.  On 01/02 on my way to work, I noticed that my Intellibeam wasn't working.  Then I noticed that the Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning were not working.  I checked this thread and found the post about having to do the relearn process.  Went back to the dealership and informed them of the issue.  They were all "First time we've had this issue".  Yeah, whatever.  They said they opened a case with GM on it.  GM said that they needed to do the relearn process, which they did.  Everything related to the front windshield camera works now.

All the same issues with mine.  Dealership couldn't figure out why all driver assist functions "died" and on the way home all functions began resetting and all work fine now.  Brakes failed and truck was at dealership for 2 weeks.  GM techs believe the low voltage issue is from the updates/recalls being performed without hooking the truck to a battery charger.  The thought is the recall/update causes the trucks battery to drop to critical levels interrupting the software update but appearing to successfully download.  Dealership charged battery and then reinstalled recall.  Time will tell.....

And yes, GM Customer Care is a JOKE!

The front camera once it is placed in Relearn either by the Tech or maybe after it is reprogrammed and places itself into relearn [assumption], will commence learning when the vehicle is > 36 mph and on a good marked road. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes of driving to calibrate the camera.

I'm so mad about the issues I've had with my truck that I'm seriously considering trading it in on a Ram.

While the camera issue isn't resolved, I now have another headache... the brakes are causing issues. Was just in the truck with my family and got a check engine light, traction control light, ABS light and an illuminated BRAKE light. No power assist to the brakes and speed limited to 62mph. Took it straight back to the service shop and told them not to return it to me until they resolve all the issues after the updates.

This Sierra has been hit with just about everything. Oil cooler line failure and engine replacement? Check. Cold weather issues related to the display and trailering functions? Check. Post-update bricking of camera and loss of brakes? Check.

This is the last GM vehicle I'll own. I'm done.

Update to my saga.

Never had any brake failures, or issues with the ABS since I purchased, only the 14% pad life issue and a leaking rear window was the reason why I took it in mid December.  Had all three recalls done.  When picking the truck up, I noticed that all the forward camera related safety systems weren't working, ie lane departure, forward collision braking, intelli-beam, pedestrian braking etc.  None of the icons or the button would work.  Took back to the dealer over the Xmass holiday to look into it, and was told after 2.5 hrs that they weren't able to resolve and need input from GM.

Over the last week, some of the systems started to come back on their own, I was getting forward collision warnings, the little car icon popped back up on my HUD and dash, and the lane departure button was illuminated (not able to turn off now) but the lane departure icon stays white (not working).  This past week I felt this was kinda promising that some of these features were perhaps resolving  themselves.

That was until today.  Remote started the truck from the app about two hours ago, went to get into the truck and notice that even before I hit the start button that the CEL was on.  Hit the start button and bang,  four errors cycle through the DIC, reduced braking / speed 62mph, ABS failure etc.  All the goodies.  Hit the start button to shut down and start back up and bam, no error codes, just the CEL on now.  Drove for a bit and everything seems ok, just the CEL on.

Have owned GM trucks since the late 90's, never have felt that I couldn't trust the vehicle I am driving like I do now.  Have three kids and honestly unless these brake issues aren't resolved, will keep them out of the truck.

Forwarded the OnStar email to my service advisor and requested a loaner for Monday.  Im basically at my limit for this $65K truck I own.  Rear window leaking again after the re-seal, first month of ownership they had to replace my transferase due to a non fixable leak, now these brake issues after the recall???

Same issue here. Over and over again. When I call my service advisor or GM corporate, nobody seems to give a damn. Dropping it off Monday for them to try to fix it. I also have my eye on a Ram 1500 Limited if I can get all the dash lights turned off in this junk box.

+1 on don’t do the recalls. Lost all lane assist, blind spot monitor, front park assist, and Intellibeam. Pretty much half the shit I paid extra for on this truck. Almost missed a car in the Blind spot on the way home. It’s getting to be not laughable anymore. They act like wasted trips to the dealership are no big deal when you bring it in. My crappy dealer doesn’t even look for TBS’s to see if any of the things wrong with the truck, have already been addressed. Get to have a serious “How can you be this crappy?” talk with the service manager, when I drop the truck back to look at and likely not fix all that was lost. Then they also have to change the transmission fluid they should’ve done before ever selling the truck, that was mfd before June 2019. I don’t see how a dealership that sold hundreds of these 2019 Silverado’s, could know so little about them. Or are there hundreds of people they just don’t realize when their vehicles being a piece of crap?

Agreed on all accounts here, that being said hope to save you some trouble in the transmission department if possible. Anything manufactured after March 2019 should already have the new fluid. Before that, yeah you’ll have to get it swapped.

I took my '19 Silverado High Country to the dealer Friday for 3 recalls.  Now I don't have any driver assist features including Lane Keep Assist and the Following Distance feature.  So I think they bricked my front camera also.  Taking it back in Tuesday.

Man, I hope not?.  I wonder how a person can tell if the front camera is in " Learning Mode".  Maybe mine is and I just don't realize it?  The button on the center stack is inoperable, wonder if that means the camera is too until it "Learns"?

The only way to tell is find a nice stretch of road with good markings and allows you to keep your speed above 36 mph. It should take about 10 minutes for the camera to finish learning. Or have the deal check with his GDS2 system.

Calibration

Note:

Do NOT swap cameras between vehicles, it is not approved and a VIN mismatch will occur.

The calibration process for the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield is necessary when the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshieldis replaced by a new one or has been removed from it’s bracket and mounted again properly. It is necessary to initiate the learn using a scan tool. This process is typically completed within 3–5 minutes when the correct driving conditions are met. If conditions are not met, the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield will continuously run the service point calibration until successfully completed. If the Lane Departure Warning Switch is pressed during calibration, the indictor will flash momentarily and then remain off. This is normal operation indicating the system is not available.

While performing the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield learn, operate the vehicle in the following conditions until the calibration is complete:

  • Ensure the windshield is clean

  • Avoid lane changes

  • Maintain vehicle speeds between 56–90 km/h (35–56 MPH)

  • Ensure the road contains visible references (well defined lane markings, curbs, etc.)

Once the procedure is complete, the amber indicator will turn off. Shortly after, the green ready to assist indicator should illuminate so long as all conditions are met for normal operation. The system is then ready to assist.

  1. B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield Learn
  2. Apply the parking brake.

  3. Place the transmission in Park (if applicable)

  4. Install scan tool

  5. Select Module Diagnostics

  6. Select B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield

  7. Select Configuration/ Reset Functions

  8. Note:

GDS must remain active while driving the vehicle during camera learn.

  9. Select the Frontview Camera Learn and follow the directions displayed on the screen.

  10. Drive the vehicle to complete calibration.

If Slow to Calibrate

The ideal calibration condition is driving on a two-lane divided highway with markings on both sides of the lane. One or more of the following conditions may increase the length of time required to complete the self-calibration procedure:

  • Heavy traffic

  • Stop and go traffic

  • Mountain roads

  • Curves in roadway

  • Poor contrast lane markings

  • Botts' Dots or similar type lane markings

  • Operating the vehicle at speeds greater than recommended

  • Driving through snow or fog, or driving directly into the sun

  • B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield is not properly installed. Verify it is snapped into tabs and is secure. Refer to Front View Camera Replacement.

No Calibration

Conditions that will prevent completion of the self-calibration procedure:

  • Dirty windshield glass or obstruction on windshield. This may included a tinted windshield, windshield tint strips, or vinyl strips or graphics on the windshield. Additionally, other obstructions such as brush guards or hood deflectors may obstruct view of the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield and hinder it’s ability to complete the learn.

  • Operating the vehicle with speed less than 56 km/h (35 MPH)

  • No visible lane markings

  • Severe weather where lane markings cannot be seen

  • B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield not properly installed. Verify it is snapped into tabs and is secure. Refer to Front View Camera Replacement. Ensure the bracket is in the correct location by comparing to a known good vehicle. This is especially important if the windshield was recently replaced. Some aftermarket windshield may have the B174W Frontview Camera – Windshield in the incorrect location. Improper installation of a replacement windshield may also prevent completion of the learn if the windshield was not centered and leveled in the vehicle’s windshield opening.

Why does it seem none of the dealerships seem to know any of this when doing the recalls? Why would a copy of that last service bulletin not be sent with the recall to the dealership? Is it just a big cluster F in communication with the dealerships, or are the dealerships just not giving a shit about providing a decent service for their customers? I’m sure dealership workers are here just lurking. What say you? Does the new breed of service techs just not give a crap, or is it too much work for you to actually do your job? Learning and keeping up with service bulletins is part of your job.
