active aero shutters

I know dually and snow plow prep do not get aero shutters. I would have to look up the other combinations.

My 2020 3500 SRW HC Duramax was built on 8/20. Has shutters. No plow prep but does have the 5th wheel prep package. Does anyone know if the winter cover is absolutely necessary if the shutters are primarily closed in cold weather?

Anyone with active air shutters missing the top left blade? Dealership told me this was normal.

I realize that this is an old topic but I wanted to see if we have learned anything new. I have a HD 2021 3500 SRW Denali truck without any plow prep and it does not have shutters. I am wondering if the use of shutters changed somewhat for the 2021 model year. I am more curious than anything since shutters are another possible failure point that could cause trouble. I am going to be spending some time in Colorado at higher elevations this winter so Most likely I will be putting on the winter front cover to help the engine warm up easier.

For those with Shutters does your build sheet reflect Active Shutters as a specific option?

Just to be clear the reason for the active shutters is to retain engine heat/. BTW I have a 2021 AT4 3500 with plow prep and no shutters.

I totally agree about retention of engine heat. I think it is normal to not have shutters with plow prep. It seems less typical that mine would not have shutters since I do not have plow prep and my truck is a SRW Denali.

I am pretty sure that the purpose of the active shutters is to help with aerodynamics. I am not sure how the GM system works but the 19 f150 I got out of for my 2500 Denali actually would prevent the shutters from fully closing below a certain temperature to prevent them from freezing closed.

I have no idea if GM has some aerodynamic strategy here, but I suspect the primary benefit of shutters is intended to be the same as that of a winter partial grill cover.

Now I'm a little curious myself. I have a '21 2500hd LT without snowplow prep package and I do not have active aero shutters. Curious what's change for 2021 or if they decided they weren't worth the trouble after only having them on the HD trucks for 1 year.

My '21 2500 Denali w/o snow plow prep and with fifth wheel prep has em. After a 50km drive at 0C they are fully closed.

I'd double check your build sheet.

Ran some 2021 2500hd Duramax VINs without plow prep and they all had shutters in the build.

I also checked the 2021 MY production option changes, WMI shutters were never deleted/removed during the production run due to any current events.

What is the code or designation for shutters on a build sheet? I have a build sheet for my 2021 Denali 3500 SRW Duramax and do not see anything that mentions shutters.

WMI. If you have VYU you won't have WMI.

I just looked at my build sheet. I do have WMI listed as reflected in the screen snip below labeled as "SALES PACKAGE - CONV PACKAGE." I do not have shutters.
