Probably opening up a can of worms here, but it seems very common for people to swap out their Trail Boss Goodyear Duratracs as one of the first things they do. 
 

These are my second set of Duratracs (first set on my 17’ Taco for 30k miles). I’ve run many of the liked brands of tires over the years on various trucks. Of all them I feel I like the Duratracs from an all around perspective the most. 
 

I find for how aggressive they are, they handle surprising well on dry pavement and in my experience they don’t get all wild in an emergency braking scenario. They’ve been excellent in wet and snowy conditions and clean themselves very well in the type of mud I spend most of my time in the mountains of south central PA. The road noise doesn’t bother me personally. I’ve owned louder tires in the past. 
 

Anyone else agree?

They are good tires, much better than the Goodyear SRA.  

 

I think the Falken Wildpeak AT3W is the best AT tire in my experience.  Nothing bad to say on the Duratracs though.

My 19 Trail Boss came with them, performed very well in mud. Traded 19 for a 20 with the 3.0 and first thing I did was put on a set of Dura tracs. Got an extra set of rims and run the stock tires in the summer and run the Dura tracs in the winter. No problems here.

Put them on my 2014 and loved them.  Until I replaced them with BFG KO2s at 60k. Then I realized how loud and harsh they were.

How do the ridge grapplers compare to the KO2s?

 

I've always run KO2s but I'm thinking about ridge grapplers after the duratracs wear out.  The duratracs are fine but too loud.  Reminds me of the old Micky thompson baja claws I used to run on my old taco.

I think they're fine. They did well on my trip to my cabin in the mountains and that's all offroad, but only maybe a 1/4 of a mile. But it's uphill and can get muddy if it's been raining which it hadn't. They did well on the highway for the 3 hours it takes me to get to and from the cabin. I've only had the truck for just over 1000 miles so I don't have a lot of experience with them. They're definitely quieter than the Nitto Terra Grapplers I had on my 2016 Tacoma TRD OffRoad on the highway. But that's an apples to oranges comparison, I'm pretty sure my Chevy has more sound insulation than that Tacoma.

 

Once these Duratracs wear down, I'll probably go with KO2's since I've had them in previous trucks and liked them very much.

3rd set of Duratracs for me.  Snow performance has been great.  I can be in 2wd sometimes and get around very well.  No weight in my box in the winter either.  

 

For as aggressive as they are, the noise is quite low.  A touch above most AT tires to my ears.  There are much louder tires for sure.  But mis-time a tire rotation, and they will make noise for as long as they are on the truck.

I’ve always run KOs on my trucks. I never had a flat. Sometimes I would work in Austin where thorny bushes reside on their ROWs. I found a good mix of quiet on road with aggressive enough tread for off road. I never tried anything else because these work for me. Nothing worse than traveling on the HWY hearing tire noise.

I'm pretty sure the Duratracs are one of the most popular tires out there for off-roading.  The reason most people change brands is due to their cost....they are expensive.

How does everyone feel about the KOs from a self cleaning perspective? I've never had luck with any BFG cleaning themselves well.

 

Even when my Duratracs have gotten gummed up I find the side wall tread gets me an extra little help to get out of most jams.

I like duratracs, they are good in snow. I think alot of people switch to go to a bigger tire, and duratracs are on the high side if the price range

Love the duratracs, look Good and they perform well and like  many have said at higher speeds they tend to hum Little bit loud. Would have been nice to see the current Trail boss size little bigger. Like the Ram Rebel

I agree... It would be nice if they went a little bigger for the TB. The tire does seem to be a bit small for a truck of that stature.

    • It really is comical when people don’t agree or see the reason some people prefer the older vehicles. They become condescending. All the while they may be busting their knuckles on old vehicles. I have found memories of swapping out engines in my old GM cars in a weekend without much hassle. Unlike today. One wrong move a computer will shut you down. Even on something as easy as a brake job. There’s a pretty comical YouTuber called the car wizard. A garage owner who puts it all in perspective. Another Vicegrip garage that’s shows just how tough the old stuff is. 
    • I was around and remember that era very well, so I'm calling b/s on that statement. If they were that bad no police department or taxi company would've bought a single one ... but they were used in both services (and fire) for DECADES. They were bulletproof and proven. Even the early 21st century ones weren't too bad! The early models were legendary.   Mine is proof, but people like atlas are blinded by agenda and refuse to believe facts right before their very eyes.   Even decades after they were built, a new generation started driving them, posting all their builds and shenanigans on Grandmarq.net and Crownvic.net. The failures would show up then, since they all were deep past 100k-150k miles by that point, and younger drivers tend to be a little aggressive, especially with vehicles than can lay a one-tire fire for as long as you hold your foot in it. They've more than proven themselves over the decades.   The only thing that'll really take them out is road salt. The bodies and sheet metal were garbage. A victim of the cheapout FoMoCo and GM have been partaking in before then, and since.   Today it's the stuff that counts - the undercarriage that rots away first!    GMs Caprice was no slouch either. Reliable as a stone ax - the opposite of what they build now.    
    • Let me know how your vehicles do in 10 years. You don't know ******, kid. 😂    There's a reason that Panther platform was used as police, fire, and taxi service for DECADES ... long before you were born, apparently.
    • If your connector also has a big lever to get the connector on and off, you don't want to force the lever either way, as it becomes a bigger problem if you bust the lever or the mechanism it works.
    • It's just useful to disconnect the battery to prevent odd shorting out when unplugging/plugging stuff together.  I also  touch the two cable ends together (after disonnecting) to drain the small amount of stored battery energy in various modules.   I believe the main system where you need to be more concerned with, so you need to do the above and then wait some time, iss when you are working on the air bag system, to prevent inadvertent firing of the air bags.   The in-cab switches are just that, plain switches, it's generally not a problem to swap them in/out.  For my '12, I'll get an error message on the dash if I power up the truck w them unplugged, but that's it (power up= turn the ignition on).   The ITBC located above the spare tire is a computer that manages the trailer brake system.  That is probably more important to have the battery disconnected.  It does have to be programmed to the truck, either before or after it's installed, for it to work.  For my '12, I had a very hard time reinstalling the main connector to it (IDK if yours is the same or not), it turned out the silicon seal was jamming up, preventing it from going on all the way.  I finally got it fully installed by lubing the seal with a bit of dielectric grease, then it slid on and latched in place easily.
