So I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 at 35k miles and I got a flashing CEL for about 30 seconds a few weeks ago on the highway and took it it to auto parts store but it had no codes present. About a week and a half ago the CEL came on constant and it came up with the P50D Rough Idle and so I got oil changed and ran some fuel system cleaner through and after a couple days the light started flashing and ran rough for a few min, I parked it and started it 10 min later and it was a solid CEL again but I was able to pull a P300 General misfire code. Today it did the same thing but ran worse than ever and I thought it was going to die on me, shut it down for 10 min and it ran ok. Before I start throwing money at this where should I start, spark plugs, coil packs, injectors? I'm at a loss with only 35k and just passed the 3yr warranty. Thanks for any advice.

need a better scan done, need to see the freeze frame data of when the cel was triggered. your symptoms point to an injector problem, but you need to have a full scan done first

I appreciate the response, do you have any recommendations for a scanning tool to do this? I am planning to schedule with a local mechanic that I trust today but if its something that I can get and have for future issues and its cheap and worth it. Thanks again.

You still have powertrain which is 5yr/60k.  Take it in.

Not for injectors, 3yr/36k.

I need to troubleshoot and figure it out then go from there, if its an injector or a coil pack I can handle that myself. Symptoms match one of those and I'm leaning towards injector but I need to know for sure so I'm not wasting money

Spend the $150 and let the dealer diagnose it then.  Unless you have access to GM's AFIT injector tester or a good scanner that can pull injector balance rates, you will be throwing parts at it.

    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
    • Just wanted to get a idea of how many of you still have problems with your radio cutting out during the first few minutes of driving, my 2024 GMC Sierra still does this after a little over 2 years of complaining to my dealer about it, and OTA updates no longer complete, the check for updates in settings is greyed out for the second time while trying to install a update, my dealer took about a week to play around with it the first time this happened, and somehow got the check for updates to work, even though it would always show system is up to date when I knew it wasn't, now again 1 month later its greyed out again when the OTA update N25-F163BU tried to install, which ironically is the update to help with reliability of future updates.

    • Prices on the hi-way are falling daily, $3.66- $3.71, Local has yet to drop, actually some are still going up, $3.87 and up
    • I finally got it to start. It was a mix of a few issues. The frame ground was in bad shape so I ran a new one and cleaned up the area to get a good connection then covered it in rust reformer then bed liner to keep it as clean as possible. The other ground I found that looked suspect was on the frame toward the back of the truck near the bed. I did the same. After pulling the fuse box out from the engine bay I found a couple of wires that looked like at some point mice may have got ahold of it. That was an easy fix. After that i was able to get control power and was able to trace down a few more connections going to the other fuse panels in the cab. After that it finally started up and runs. It sounds like an angry school bus which I can work with. No OBD2 codes, but I think since its set for a long time I should pull the turbo and get it rebuilt or swapped out, but for now im good to go. Thanks for all the advice. It got me on the right track.
