Get the 10 speed tranny in whatever model you like. It’s worth the extra $.

i had a 19 RST and now have 21 Elevation.....both are 8spds ( alot of elevations are 8spds now so you have to check the sticker)

seems to me the GMC is a bit more refined but idk if its because its a 21 or gmc vs chevy or just in my head.......but it certainly feels that way to me

i wanted the 10spd as well but my elevations 8spd is pretty awesome and super smooth so no worries

I'd go for the GMC 10spd.  My last two trucks I went looking for Silverado's and found GMC's!

I’m sure they’ll be plenty of used trucks around in a few months. It’s up 80 cents a gallon since December here. Imagine the summer driving season. Trucks will be just for work just like the old days.

so went and seen them both. Some observations

GM interior seemed like it had more soft touch stuff, also the instrument cluster looked a bit nicer and different (i should have taken pics) - can anyone confirm they are a bit different?

GM was bench seat, Chev had console - console is nice forsure

I really dont know what my issue is with the GM looks wise - believe it or not I dont think i love the wheels.

Pricing is really similiar.  I will drive them both tomorrow.  Wifey likes the GM better I like the Chev (from looks standpoint only) Maybe its the round wheel wells I did and the wheels themselves are nice.

I think i know in my heart the GM will have better resale/trade value and the 10spd does get good reviews.  But am i splitting hairs here a bit - i bet compared to the 6spd in the customs the 8 speed is good.

Ugg, how to make decision :)

Yes, clusters are different but the screens are the same size. The dash is soft-touch on the GMC.

That said, if the RST has buckets, it’s at least slightly better equipped. You should post the window stickers here and I can tell you if there are some other differences you might be overlooking. Usually can view an online copy of the sticker via the dealer website.

RST did have buckets and the console.  Neither had the window sticker but i do have some info on the option sheets. Chevy on left, Sierra on right. Both have heated fronts.  Wicked floor liner system in the GM, liners in Chevy are pretty awesome too.

Go with the better deal, only thing you see while you are driving is the logo in the center of the steering wheel.

Hip National Bank will like your decision better.

The only thing I would use to make this decision is that 10spd. The 8 speed is straight up garbage. My dads 19 has been in twice for it slipping and slamming. They changed the fluid 2k ago and now it's coming back again with only 27k on it...

I have a 2020 Trail Boss LT 6.2 w/ 10-speed. My neighbor just bought a 2021 Trail Boss Custom 5.3 w/ 8-speed. I tried saying him to at least go with the same engine and trans that I have, and he did order a truck that way, but before the truck arrived he ended up buying the 5.3 & 8-speed. Tonight he was mentioning the truck has a vibration or shimmy with the trans. His truck probably doesn't 1,000 miles on it yet. Iirc, I first noticed it in the driveway less than 2 weeks ago. All I could say was, that is exactly why I was recommending the 6.2 & 10-speed. I feel bad for the guy. So, please take this to heart and heed everybody's advice. Go get the 10-speed. If you like the Chevy, get one with a 10-speed. Make the dealer work for you. They need to earn their money. Otherwise, do a build at Chevy.com and then search available inventory based on your zip code.

Get the TrailBoss with 10 speed.  Although I did have have a Colorado ZR2 with the 8 speed with no issues. But there are other people who had issues with 8 speed.

Not that it really matters but a 5.3 Custom TB will have the 6 speed, not the 8. Vibration might just be the AFM. Those trucks are still using the old cylinder deactivation program. And they are pretty rough in comparison to the DFM.

OP, it does appear that the only material differences are the console on the Chevy vs the 10 speed on the GMC. With that in mind I would probably lean toward the GMC. But if you don’t like the look of it, it doesn’t really matter. Buy what you want the first time. It’s cheaper.

I had all intentions of going Trailboss. Until I sat in a Sierra AT4. Brought home the 21 AT4 with 10 speed. Also went with the duramax but the jury is still out for me on that. It is $1500 less than the 6.2 now though.

I hope to go see them in person this afternoon. Tell me Jim - why do you like the GM better and also - can you speak to your 8spd RST - has it been good for you? Still lots of get up and go?

I just like the front end styling and lighting better.

And I don't have an 8 spd, 6.2 with the 10 spd.

EDIT:  Also in regards to appearances, the GMC has the plastic fender trim, the Chevy does not.  Looks better without in my opinion.
