DRL headlight turning blue

There are a lot of post about the DRL turning blue on FB groups. I didn't see any post on the forum so thought I would start one so everyone could share if they are having same problem.

I have 2020 AT4 with 22K miles. Just had dealer replace both headlights because of them turning blue.

My problem is its intermittent, sometimes light blue other times normal.

These posts always crack me up, 3 people here have it, 3... A few people with the issue or a small handful all of a sudden it is labeled as common issue that almost every truck has when it is probably

Yes hilarious. 🙄   I have a 21' sierra 1500 denali 3.0 w) same issue on driver side top drl is purple-ish.    Make that 5 people.

Strange, haven't heard of this.  Is it only the GMCs?  Or are silverados also impacted?

1badc5... not sure what the chances are, but I just posted this same topic on another thread yesterday... see link to my post below. I have the exact same problem. My truck only has 6k miles and the drivers side DRL turned purplish blue at top only. I took it to GM already, they acknowledged it. However, I didn’t have time to leave it. I’ll be taking it back in the next few weeks to have them look again. Good to know your dealer replaced them with no issue. This is frustrating for sure.

Seems like this slope is about to get slippery.  

 

I kinda hope someone gets to keep the old and is willing to tear it down or send to someone that will.  Would be interested to see what the cause is

I’ll ask, but I’m sure GM will say they have to send the defective unit back to GM corporate. They need to figure out what’s going on and quit building units that are failing. It’s gonna suck once we get out of warranty and we are stuck with purple DRLs... or spend $1200 per lamp to replace them. I think I’ve seen maybe one Silverado on the road with a purple DRL. I’ve seen a few Sierra’s with the issue. I guess it’s not super prevalent.

Yes, mine is parked outside all day. Too damn big to fit in my garage 😆. Not sure about UV. Only my drivers side has turned purple. Seems like something with the actual LEDs are failing. I read some article a while back about how all LEDs emit a blue color... and they apply a phosphor to change the light to white. If that’s the case, seems that the phosphor is failing.

We are having the same problem with streetlights in Wichita, KS. They are turning purple/blue.  It sounds like the same cause, a problem with the internals in the LED light.

Noticed the Blue LED on the top of my 2021 drivers side headlamp today, Built 4/21, 1100 miles.

Sorry to hear, seems this is a very common issue. As an update: I just took mine in finally last week. The dealership looked at it and said they would order a new headlight unit. Something like $1500 for just drivers side. Hopefully it arrives this week and I can get it installed.

Same issue on our 2020 Denali drivers side headlamp only on the top area; super odd but yes it’s led failure.

My concern is that it’s likely that GM hasn’t remedied the issue in manufacturing and that we are going to keep having this problem even after the units are replaced and then once the truck is out of warranty, we are stuck. Or out of pocket a lot of money. Based on the newest trucks (built in 2021) still having this issue, I’m not very confident.

These posts always crack me up, 3 people here have it, 3... A few people with the issue or a small handful all of a sudden it is labeled as common issue that almost every truck has when it is probably a 0.000X% of people that actually have had the issue. Lets not make it something it isn't, people did that with the AFM failures and valve coking to name a few; made it out to be some common issue when very few even on the forums had it where most people go just to complain.

I have a 21 Trailboss, and I have noticed this as well. I saw it in a reflection as I was parking, otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen it. 

 

However, it does appear the one blueish color light has returned to its original bright white as I type this.  Not sure how/why, but I'm going to keep an eye on it.

      Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.

Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive

      Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?

      I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?

      Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
