The HD trucks are run on the rollers to check for issues, sort of like a dyno, every one gets that and a number are actually test driven for "squeaks and rattles". They do spend quite a bit of effort on validation and testing in an attempt to curb warranty issues.

Wish that run on the rollers included checking diffs haha

True haha. If I'm in the drive thru at Jimmy Johns I always pay cash so they can get me my sammie before I tell them to pound sand on the tip as they fumble for cash.

I never send food back either.

Bingo. If it's that bad - I just don't eat it and tell them I don't need anything else. Whatever comes back out is full of "things" I don't want to eat.

I started my work career at a GMC/Diamond T garage back in 1965. Being low man on the totem pole, one of my duties was to check every fluid level on every truck we sent out the door new or used. And I don't remember ever finding a new vehicle with a low differential. Times have changed. A new pickup back then was probably 2-3 grand.

Diamond T.... you don't hear that everyday. My boss has a museum with 5 or 6 and more in resto process. Along with some REO Speedwagons, for the truck portion

I was there when Diamond T combined with REO. I was assigned the task of converting our Diamond T inventory to Diamond REO.  The conversion kits came in a large box including blueprints. It was a fun project.

Twin Pines Truck Stop in Cedar Rapids Iowa was just down the road from the house I grew up in before I-380 cut a swath through there. Diamond Reo dealership as well. Use to ride in the yard horse as a kid. Twin stick 4 over 4 transmissions. Loop the arm through the steering wheel to get a hand on both. Pretty sound that lazy shift. Lay in bed at night and listen to them rumble down US-30 one slow gear change at a time. Beautiful trucks.

Grew up a couple blocks south of the Diamond Reo plant in Lansing. It was vacant by then. I remember coming home from a weekend at grandmas one Sunday night, we saw the sky glowing over town. Come to find out the whole plant was burning. We were close to the railroad spur that fed it, so we had a clear view out the back of the house. Those flames were a lot taller than the trees. I want to say that was around 81 or 82.

Got the '22 3500 back Thursday. Seems like driving a new truck, it's been so long.

20230528_180543.thumb.jpg.78b1e809cccad3fca4b76d0defb53c1b.jpgChecked the rear diff this morning. Took 1 full qt and 14 ozs from a second before it started to drip out.

Still need to check the front.

I know I'm going to get some crap from saying this but I still haven't checked my front diff...Not because I'm lazy, it's just life.  I will plan on doing that tomorrow.

Well? What did you come up with? I filled the front diff today and used a squeeze qt. Not accurate, but I'd say it was all of a half qt.

When I was 19 (1968) my boss sent me on a bus out to the Diamond Reo factory to pick up a truck for a customer. It had a 318 Detroit Diesel and a 13 speed transmission. I had never seen a 13 spd before that. Sent a $30K check with me to pay for it. Told me it would be ready when I got there. I got there at 6am. Being a stupid kid, when I couldn't get in the main door, I wandered around till I found an open door. Wandered all thru the office including the drafting area w/o finding anyone (luckily for me). Finally left and came back at 8. They gave me a tour of the plant while waiting for final prep. I didn't mention I'd already seen the office. That was during Vietnam and every 4th truck was going to the military. Overall, it was a great experience.

While I was under mine yesterday doing rustproofing I figured I would check the rear diff. Best I can tell it was at least 1 1/2" below the fill plug. I put about a pint in it and threw the plug back in. I am still waiting for some sort of document that shows what American Axle specifies as "full"

    • Its just that it worked on 2024 trucks on this forum and my 2025 model truck, unless GM did something since that point to screw up access or Autel has a bad update. I haven't had need to use my tool since last year when I did the changes to the placard pressure settings and since then I updated the software on my Autel but have not plugged into the OBD so hard to say if I would get a surprise as well.    All I know last year when I bought the Autel I was warned to be sure to update it before I tried using the unit as they said who knows how long ago unit itself was actually manufactured as the software could be way out of date.
    • And so you had gone through the process of registering and updating the tool and so on ?. All I can say is that on the front page as the tool fires up you go to advanced mode, then vehicle model comes up and you choose Silverado ( not the DRW or EV  since your a single rear wheel ) , then I think its choice 2 which is 07/2021 - 12/2026 ( 433mhz 13542523 ) as that is the series of tpms sensors and then go down to choice 5 which is tire type/pressure selection. Hit yes and it says to connect to OBD port and turn ignition on.    Having said this, I updated the software in my tool lately and these year range choices look different from the past due to them doing some updates it would appear and I have not connected up to the OBD port since last year so hopefully I am not in for a surprise with them screwing up the software and that it won't work on my truck anymore either.    So my question is, when you plugged into the OBD and started your truck it had that message on the Autel screen "vehicle not supported" ?. That does seem odd as tire shops would be pissed right off if hey can't use their tool on the model year after mine that in theory is supposed to be much the same truck ... unless GM did some change in the computer system to block certain things from access.
    • Understanding and using modern scan tools is its own body of knowledge. I had little hope that would work...programming access to the BCM is probably required and that is not easy for us consumers. Expensive scan tool, GM programming subscription, online authentication, etc.   It also may be a matter of finding the right dealer to program it for you. Flashing a modern BCM might be a little too advanced for most tire shops.
    • Update for anyone following:    Installed everything as shown in diagram. Opted for 8 AWG from Battery Positive to a 50A resettable inline breaker. 8 AWG is tied into to 2x 12 AWG wires feeding a 6 way fuse bus in parallel (manufacturer’s design of what I purchased).    4 of the 6 fuses available for circuits are tied to terminal 30 of each relay. I tied a jumper from one of my spare circuits off the bus to terminal 86 of each relay. The trigger, terminal 85, was pulled from my interior by way of T-Taps from the X61A-X5 pins 10, 11, 17 and 23. This was the hardest part of the job. Even with the X61A unbolted and the X5 removed - there was VERY little wiggle room.  I added back up lights that I want to come on with my cargo lamp - but when I would check continuity between S48A-X1 pin 18 to its respective landing point on the X61A-X5 it triggers the factory relay… Instead I opted for a add-a-fuse on the passenger interior fuse panel (fuse location 10 - cargo lamp) and ran it through the boot on the driver side to my load. Did this to avoid introducing any electrical gremlins.   Note: Please check for continuity between the S48A-X1 and the X61A-X5. In my case wire colours were not the same as other’s who have posted. To do a continuity check you need a Multimeter. Completely disassemble the S48A-X1 and remove the brown face plate off the X61A-X5 by way of a flat head screwdriver - this was the only way I could get any results.   The outputs, terminal 87 of the relays, were fed into a junction box and landed at Individual studs and were labelled Aux 1-4.    At this point, all you need to do is run wire to your loads and bring them to ground. I created a negative bus in the engine bay, all my negatives land here.    For anyone having issues with all of your new aux switch lights coming on with the press of one - I noticed this only to be an issue when the battery wasn’t hooked up to my relays? No idea why, but it was quickly corrected by having my system buttoned up and functional.
    • Well I ordered the Autel ts508, and it won't work on my truck I tried all the 2023 and everything it just says vehicle not supported lol   I'm able to send this unit back, so I'm going to do that, then I'll just stop into a some tire shops and if none of them are able to do it, I guess ill have to spend a bunch of money to get a good scanner..... Thanks GM lol
