Finally got around to installing the Eibach 2.0 Pro Kit.  Not a bad install but since I also installed the Trail Boss half shafts and Cognito UCA's it took me 5 hrs.  So far I love it. The ride is so much better and the front end doesn't bottom out going over speed bumps like it did before.  To me it was well worth it and since the shops around here wanted $1,200 to install it, I figured I could save some cash.  I have new wheels for it and getting new Toyo Open Country ATIII's tomorrow.  I got 47k out of the factory Bridgstones. I also installed a 2" block in the back.

I got the new wheels and tires on.  The front is raised an inch and a quarter from stock with the Eibachs installed.  The wheels are  Motiv 427MB Gloss Black w/ Machined Face Accents 18 x9 with a +18 offset and tires are 285/70-18 Toyo Open Country AT III's.  No rubbing at all.  The tires are louder than I expected.  I got the impression they were kind of quiet from all the reading I have been doing online.  Not bad but you can hear them. :lol:

Have that kit sitting in bedroom, lol

 

Traded my 1500 in before I got to install it

 

Eibach is down the street from me so I'll swap it for 2500 HD kit

 

My buddy has em on his Toyota and they ride really nice.....

 

Prefer em over the bilsteins I had for sure

Great looking truck and good job doing the install yourself! 

 

I have over 85k miles on my Eibach Po Truck setup and it still feels fantastic so you should get a lot of use out of them.  Again, great job doing the install yourself, its too easy of an install to pay $1200 for somebody else to do it.

It wasn't bad at all.  Only issue was the pouring rain that hit from the hurricane.  Nothing major but still got wet some since i couldn't fit the truck all the way in the garage, plus I like natural light to work with. 

 

On a side note, the next day my thighs were killing me.  I'm not as young as I once was.  :lol:

Howdy, I just installed the Eibach coilovers and shocks paired with Icon's Delta upper control arms this weekend. I took a peak in the wheel well this evening and realized that the tires are contacting the ball joint of the upper control arms and it's chiseled in a small groove on the sidewall already from the 10-15 miles I've put on since doing the swap. It's doing this on both side of the truck. 

 

My tires are 315/70R-17 which is much wider than the stock 265/70R-17. However I've been running these 315 tires on my truck with the stock UCA's for almost a year now and have had no tire rub. Anyways, I'm headed to the tire shop tomorrow for an alignment and wondering if the alignment will fix this? I know my alignment is way outta wack since the lift & new UCA's so I'm hoping that'll fix the problem. Also hoping I haven't damaged my sidewall with the rubbing, too.

No, an alignment will not fix this. It will not change the spindle to A arm relationship. But some wheel spacers will 😉

That is a bummer, but I guess that's what I get for going with a much wider tire. I really did NOT expect new upper control arms to have this effect, in fact I was thinking it would have a bit of the opposite where I would gain a bit more clearance.

 

Just dropped off at the tire shop so I guess I'll wait to get a call back from a tech, but I'm with you @Black02Silverado, I've never used spacers and not a fan based on what I've read about them in the past - and I wasn't looking to replace with different offset wheels either. Guess I'm just bellyaching at this point but appreciate your responses. I'll update on where this ends up. 

 

I guess my next question (because this is the first time I've installed new uppers) - why did the 315 tires NOT rub on the stock UCA when I was running a stock suspension? Thanks.

Update:

 

As @Grumpy Bear and @Black02Silverado said - the alignment did not fix this issue so I now need to find new rims with enough of a negative offset or backspacing to clear the ball joint. Tech also recommended replacing the front two tires from the grooves carved into them which is a bummer - expensive mistake but I'm the only one to blame. Going to call Icon to see what they recommend for wheels as I'm not open to trying wheel spacers.

Fortunately that is the only options you have other than finding a narrower tire.  I personally like a narrower/taller tire. Not a fan of the wide. Unfortunately they don't make them narrow and tall, just fat. 😆

 

I also went with Cognito UCA's because they looked to be the least of the bunch for interference. I'm running the factor ZR2 wheels now with 285/70-18 Toyo Open Country AT III's I have a 1/2" between the UCA and the tire.

Different geometry. Your new arms move the location of the upper joint so that when lifted it doesn't stress the joint to failure.

Update:

 

Ordered new rims and got 'em installed today - they're Pro Comp 32's (17x9) with 4.75" backspacing & -6mm offset. They poke out of the wheel wells quite a bit so I'll be chipping paint on the rockers in the future but hey - they now clear the control arms! I have some plastic to trim behind the wheel well fabric, the tires start rubbing around 3/4 full lock - yeesh.

 

Hey thanks again for you guy's input.  I put 200 miles on my bicycle commuting this week while the truck sat - self punishment for being a dumbass. 😆 Here's some pics:

OP, Do you have the part numbers for the Cognito UCAs and Trail Boss half shafts (CV Axle I assume) that you installed? 

 

Did you need to replace the UCAs or just did it to prevent future problems? 

 

I had the Eibach 2.0 Pro Kit installed on my 23 RST about a year and 3 months ago and I am getting a clicking sound that the dealership communicated was from the CV Axles.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
