What do you guys consider to be a reasonable price to have my truck leveled by a shop?

 

Also I was looking on RC site and they only offer 2/2.5" leveling? I thought there were 1 & 1.5" kits available as well, thinking 2"+ would give you the front end being higher than the rear. Or is to get you to buy the blocks for the back to fix that?

 

Sorry if these questions are common knowledge or sound basic, I'm trying to learn as I go :)

I got my leveling kit installed about 10 days ago for $102 and then the alignment for $80. BUT most shops I called asked for $180 for installation plus $100 for an alignment.

I bought the truck used with 20k miles and it was stock height with stock tires. I actually think it rides better - but i think a lot has to do with the new tires vs the factory tires...much smoother ride. Yet at the same time i can tell they are MT tires, kinda hard to explain. They are very quite considering they are a MT tire though - i am very impressed with that. As far as the level is concerned - i can't tell difference in the ride at all, just when i go to get out and its a longer drop to the ground ha ha.

Gas mileage was affected - how much?? 1-1.5 mpg is my guess...they are HEAVY tires compared to stock.

There is a slight rub/contact with sway bar - none on the UCA that i have seen. I try to avoid full lock steering when possible though. I will get pics later today.

Awesome, thanks for the information man. I think that I'm gonna break down and order the level/tires in the next week or so. Ill post some pics once everything is installed.

for reference this is my daughters 08 gmc with the same RC 2.5 level and it has the same amount of rub on the swaybar.

it has bf good rich AT 285-70-17.

local place wanted i think around $300 to install mine and i would still have to take it to alignment shop myself - so i just installed myself, then took to alignment shop.

if you just want it leveled i would go with the 2" - which just raises the front.

when i did my 2.5 the front sat about 1/2-3/4" higher in the front than the rear...then i added the rear blocks a few days later.

now the rear sit about 1" higher than the front...

Im not truck/part savvy enough to do it on my own (well maybe i could watching a video it seemed kinda straight forward) but i dont possess the necessary tools.

 

A really good friend of mine works for a custom shop, out of curiousity i asked about their pricing and i was in shock. More than anyone has said in here. He said he'd cut me a deal though. But i think their price includes their kits so maybe thats why.

 

 

owning a truck is expensive lol geez im used to my car, i bought it and never made a mod besides HIDs

Finally decided to get a leveling kit.. Went with the 2.5" Rough Country Leveling Kit.. Also got it installed today!! So far I really like it, ride is pretty good.. Didn't put the rear block on that came with the kit yet.. Want to see if it will settle a little after I drive it and get an alinement done...

I bought the RC 2.5 kit with the rear blocks online and had my local shop install for $120 that included the alignment. I had new Toyos put on at the same time. It was well worth it to have them do it IMO.

Guys,

 

I'm looking to buy the RC 2.5" front with 3" rear blocks. I've searched and cant find a definitive answer to the tire question. I want to put the widest and tallest tire possible on the stock 20's. Can I go 295/60/20 with no rubbing or contact? If not, what is the absolute biggest tire I can run with zero issues?

Picture of my '15 DC with a 1" front end lift. Still has some rake, but surprisingly, 1" front end height adjustment makes a big difference. Stock 265/65-18 tires/wheels.

Summit Performance. Really simple, just a 1/2" thick billet alum machined spacer and Grade 8 bolts. Bolts that come with it are no longer than the factory bolts. Was able to install without touching the ball joints, all I had to do was put the front end on jackstands, loosen up the sway bar links (do both sides), took a little bit of prying up on the bottom of the shock. I put the bolts in from the bottom (just like the factory bolts) and reassembled with red Loctite on the threads as a safety measure. Have put a thousand miles on the truck since installed, still tight, no signs of movement. From what I could tell, every other level kit that uses a bottom spacer, with the exception of the Rough Country 2" kit, all are made of machined aluminum. 1" level kit only spaces the shock up 1/2", personally, this is limit of how far I'd want to shim up shock above the control arm. I think a 2" lift via a spacer will increase the sheer load on the bolts to a much higher level.

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.
