Questions about my new 2014

gjernagan16, agreed, but it is more principal now. I would like to see GM step up and diffinitively state why some trucks have it and some don't. Also, keep in mind that if our forefathers just laid down instead of standing up for what is right, we wouldn't have this great country we live in.

Where are you at? Maybe going to a dealership that has fixed them for someone else would be an option.

Jee Whiz that took a long time to read all that. I was fascinated kinda like reading a book LOL. I just checked mine and all 3 work so I am relieved my build date is 12-11-2013. I checked my headlight and 4whl drive knob also all good there plus I looked at my cargo light switch and it has the little light on it that they added on later models.

There are 2 threads going on with the same issue now. You might want to read the latest posts in this thread as GM has told dealers not to replace the lights in the trucks that don't work. There is even a copy of the letter to the dealers from GM.

Dnt this was never an issue with GMC Sierras.

I think that's bs.. The vehicle is NOT operating as designed... I would be willing to bet if you asked any ENGINEER about the the lighting before any 2014 rolled off the line ... The intention was to have backlighting.... That's why the led lighting is there in all these defective boards ...it was meant to be there... There's a missing resistor a physical connection .. Which is plainly a mistake .. It would be more trouble to intentionally manufacture it that way on purpose

I was really surprised to see that you had a Classical station on with a Haydn Symphony on in the video. I have a 2014 Denali & use it as a work truck...I'm a residual builder, gun dealer, & classically trained musician who plays in a regional orchestra full time.

Nice video & nice music!

After reading for hours I still am not completely clear on if the Sierra with DUAL hvac control should have back lighted temp control knobs or not. On my 12-11-13 build Sierra SLT the two radio knobs are back lighted and the hvac center fan control knob are lighted but the two temp knobs are not. The temp knobs look like they have a chrome trim ring around them and were never intended to be backlghted? Does someone have a dual control system that has backlighting like the brochure shows? Would love to see that pic if you do.

The climate control dials do not light up.. At least there are no illuminated rings around them. Where in the brochure did you see this?

An update: I revisited my dealer yesterday for the radio / HVAC control knob backlighting issue. They wanted to walk around the lot with me comparing trucks to prove to me that it was a model base issue (High Country, Texas Edition, etc) and not an issue accross the board. In the hour and a half it took me to drive to the dealer from work, they changed their mind and sited that it was a production date issue and not a model based issue. They said they received a bulletin from GM stating that early production trucks do not have lit knobs and this is normal operation and to explain to the customer that it will not be fixed under warranty. I also never received a case number from Andraya R., who did contact my dealership before I got there. Long story short, I believe I am going to bow down out of this fight. Having the halo rigns lit really was not, and is not an issue for me. Having GM stand up and my dealership stand behind the product, and do something for all. I wish all of you luck with having this issue repaired by your dealers.

I guess the moral of the story is they better not make mid year updates on anything or all hell will break loose. In 1964 Chevy came back out with the Elcamino early ones had the 200hp 327, than later 250hp, in the end of the year 300hp 327. Sometimes things change in the model year, it happens. I missed major rebates by one day once. Now on the other hand if something is broke that's different . I bet all those 64 ford falcon owners were mad when the 641/2 mustangs came out.

This is not a running change and a "operating as designed" issue. The LED rings are supposed to be in ALL the trucks from the time the first one rolled off the line. The supplier didn't solder in resistors in many of the earlier builds, and instead of GM stopping production until it was corrected, they kept putting non-working led rings in new trucks. GM should repair any truck that the purchaser asks to have corrected. This is not, or ever has been, a running change on the control modules. It was a screw-up that GM is trying to hide in some instances. In other cases, the dealer and GM are doing right by the customer, as they should. I just wonder if it is a regional service rep thing going on with the ones getting refused?

Maybe those of us who got their trucks fixed can post the dealership/city we went to so that if anyone needs theirs fixed and are nearby they can go there.

I talked to my dealer who replaced mine. When they went on the lot they found 3 trucks with no lighting. He said he was gonna get them fixed prior to selling so others don't have to deal with the issue later. Well 2 weeks went by and I had to go to the dealership for a traction control issue. He said GM got back to him and stated that they will not authorize the fix for the other trucks. He said and I quote" GM said if they have no LED lighting, that's the way they were built and they will not be replaced. If a customer builds a truck and its delivered with out working LED's they will fix". Crazy!
