so for you folks that installed your exhaust yourself. well the exhaust not come out if you pulled it forward? I can use the lift here on base to do my exhaust install, but I am worried about getting it out in one piece, I am not up for hacking it to pieces. I've heard jacking up the rear tire which obviously means to me that im not jacking anything up if its on a lift. did you guys put the jack under the frame and lifted the frame enough for the suspension to drop leaving enough room for the

exhaust

I did mine in my side yard, I pulled it on the grass so it was softer for my back. I lifted the truck up just off the ground and pulled the exhaust backwards until it cleared the crossmember. Once the cat flange was past the x-member, I twisted the stock tailpipe down to orient the hangars out of the way and slid it over the axle. If my 5'10" 225 lb ass can do it on my back, a military man should have zero issue! Good luck, it's a bitch

 

What I fialed to explain is it went over the axle towards the front

Got my Dynomax VT system installed today (this system has the flapper built into the muffler). It is everything I expected! It has a nice low rumble when idling but a nice growl if you mash the pedal. Everyday V8 driving is not much louder than stock, but the tone is better. Everyday V4 driving is not as quiet as stock, but very very very little drone. Basically, if you're training your ear to hear it, then you'll notice it but if your wife or girlfriend got in the truck, she wouldn't even notice. Overall, I am extremely pleased as for me, this is the perfect combination of sound and loudness.

 

Here are some pics and keep in mind that I have a 1.5" body lift on the truck, so the exhaust and tailpipe are a little more exposed than you would normally see.

question for you corsa sport guys, did you remove the "3rd cat" when installing the exhaust? The exhaust shop I took it to left it on, kinda assumed it was suppose to be removed due to being 'unmonitored'

Don't have a Corsa but I did have a Flowmaster Super 44 put on and I also left the 3rd cat in (had everything from the muffler back taken out). Removing it I don't think does much if anything to the sound. They just put that on for all to be Cali legal. It's not a big deal to keep it in. Now if I was building a sport truck then ya I would remove it, but using as a daily driver and nothing crazy then it's not a big deal. Even with the 3rd cat my truck is very loud and I love it lol.

I am trying to post picks of my Magnaflow kit #15318 for 6.2L...I try attaching pics and it says file is to large any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Using a Mac Pro.

Sorry if anyone has talked about this before but I don't remember seeing anything aside from Spurshot talking about his rounded tip so his pups don't catch an eye on it...

I drive on the highway for long distances often and I take my dog almost everywhere I go, she is part of the family. Most of the time she can ride in the cab, but when I have my wife and daughter along with all of their bags and accessories or hunting buddies and gear she rides in the back in a secured kennel. I'm afraid the bed will turn into a giant subwoofer which will have a similar sound maybe even more amplified as the drone we would get in the cab.

I really want to do a muffler swap just for the good ol' V8 rumble, but don't want to mess with drone and really don't want to tune (yet).

 

That being said, what do any of you fellow dog owners/hunters think about it?

Am I totally over analyzing this or do I have a valid thought?

 

I think leaving everything in place and just swapping the muffler for something in the 18 inch range will give me what I'm looking for with minimal to no drone... Obviously I'm not exhaust expert just thinking.

An 18" magnaflow is nearly unheard on the interstate/highway speeds. Mainly heard during start up or decent to heavy acceleration. Anyone who says its too loud should've stayed stock IMO

That being said, I think a muffler in the 18" range should be just fine for the pup and doubt the bed would become a giant subwoofer. If you are really worried then you could always get a bed rug bed mat to drop in, should help kill some sound because of its rug like design.

And for my last opinion which will likely catch a lot of flack from somec, you could even do an exhaust cut out. Costs the same amount to have it installed as a muffler swap, and you can open or close the exhaust. If you want it louder, open the cut out, getting on the highway and want the piece of mind that you definitely won't be bothering the dog? Close the cut out. I got it on my truck and love it. I open it in the city and when getting on the highway close it up (most of the time) cause it can become a real drone maker with it open at 75

 

Ps, I had an 18" magnaflow put on my truck before I picked it up from the dealer on Day 1. I put on 18K miles and then decided I wanted it to be a bit louder (SOMETIMES) so I decided to get a cut out. I have been loving the flexibility of the cut out so much

2015 GMC Sierra SLT crew cab with the 5.3L v8

 

I went with the Borla cat back exhaust. I purchased it online from JEGS and it was $990 shipped. Midas Muffler installed the kit for $150.00 and the stock exhaust came off in one piece. This is the aftermarket exhaust, not ordered from GMC so there is no flapper. It gives a nice rumble when you start the truck but then becomes very quiet at idle. When your under power there is a nice noticeable rumble exhaust note, I love the sound. When the V8 switches to V4 at cruising speeds you can hear a slight drone if you know what you are listening for but if you have the radio on, even at a very low volume, you don't even hear the exhaust at all. This exhaust is Not the Touring exhaust that you get if you purchase it from GMC. It is the sport exhaust which is a little louder that the touring but quieter that the next up exhaust which would be the Attach exhaust.

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
