Halogen & LED Headlight Bulb Upgrades

Here's what I got, same thing that Jon A got. Only difference is Jon has 6000K and I got 5000K. I will post pics of color and install when I get them.

Btw, you will want to contact Jon A about new covers for the back. The LED bulbs will fit under the stock cap but just barely, and by just barely I mean you will be pushing the wires up against the back of the bulb and leave little to no room for the bulb to cool. The extended caps will help add air space for the fan so the bulb can cool down properly.

thanks for the info, I think Im going this route. 9006 collar I assume?

I have an AFE airbox and it fits without modification. I can't remember how much clearance the stock airbox had but I would guess it'll fit as well as I thought they were pretty much the same in that regard. I made the covers as short as I felt comfortable expressly for that reason--they only protrude about 1/2" more than stock. The stock cover will actually physically fit on there with the bulbs installed, it's just right up against the fan (and crimping the wires, etc) so I wouldn't expect the bulbs to last like that. The guy I talked to from VLED specifically said they need some space behind the fan so they can keep cool. I could make you a set of covers if you like. $35 each should cover it.

So how is the output with those VLED's? Also, I might have missed where you said it. But did you 3D print your own covers for the back of the headlight?

I'm not real confident I'll be able to sale the morimoto kit, looks like there's been some back and forth on here regarding the warranty from original purchaser to whomever buys them. I may see if I can return them and pay a restock fee, but looks like all it gets you is store credit at TRS. Going to give em a call tomorrow, got the vleds on back order as well lol!

I confirmed that warranty can be transfered for a unused kit with a call to TRS..I sold mine 35w kit today..I just hope the vled LMZ works right since I have sle lights with the DRL feature working off the bulb and not led bar like SLT lights.

Any update on this? Did the vleds work for you? ?

Unfortunately I cancelled my order for them..although they did tell me they were in the process of developing a led kit that would work with the SLE lights, and it would include everything you would need for the install.

So after reading this whole thread, I am more confused than before. All I know is the current stock lights suck and I want an upgrade. I am thinking as a stop gap for now to get and modify the 9011 light bulbs and modify them. I just don't know which is better the HID or LED replacement lights. I just want to be able to see the road better. My elentra has better lights.

For headlights its HID hands down. To do it right you need to retrofit in some OEM equipped hid projectors and ballasts. Most will be satisfied with a kit installed on the halogen projectors though

If you don't mind waiting few days, I have a set of the new 45W LMZ bulbs on order and due to come in soon. I have had a 55W HID kit in for the past 6 months but wanted to go LED. If they are an improvement, then it'd be nice for those looking to have LED headlights. I plan to do a comparison between OEM halogen lights, 55W DDM HID 5000K, and the new LMZ LEDs at 6000K (or 5000K, I originally ordered them in 6000K but emailed VLED to change it to 5000K in hopes that it'll better match my LED DRLs at night, but I still haven't seen a change to my order, so not sure if the change was made)

I plan to take pictures and share with everyone on here to let y'all know, at least what I believe is the best option after trying all 3.

I will agree, the OEM halogens SUCK.

EDIT: if you want to see how halogens compare to the 45W LMZs, Jon A took some pictures when he changed to the LMZs. Check post 358 and 359. I know you already read through this whole thread though.

Can't wait for some pics and your impressions after having the HID's.

I am thinking these LMZ's with some DOT Rigid fogs might be the setup.

Was talking to VLED in hopes that I could get my kit shipped a bit early. Told them my HIDs failed and so now I'm without headlights and 75% of my driving is done at night. But as I figured they said that they can't :/ oh well, was worth a shot!

However they did tell me that they bulbs should start shipping out on Wednesday! I'm hoping mine arrive by Friday or Saturday.
