Ford gets ready to unveil the aluminum F-150

Before the fanboys start saying "but what happens if you get in an accident" take a closer look at what you got now for a truck if its new. They already use stuff so thin its like tin.

Also they have been using some aluminum body parts for years already.

 

They will still use a steel cargo box.

 

I think this is a good idea. GM is stuck on things like AFM oil burners, while Dodge and Ford are thinking outside the box with Twin Turbo's, 1/2 ton diesels, and aluminum bodies.

Only an ass would worry about aluminum. Audi has been doing it for ages.

Anyways I think aluminum would be nice because it doesn't rust like steel.

30 MPG only seems possible with a lot of weight cut, aerodynamics, low rolling resistance tires, and a diesel engine.

seeing too many 04+ f150's with corroding aluminum hoods/losing paint around here to have confidence in Ford doing this.... maybe if the paint sticks by now.... OTOH, Don't see it happening with audis that are obviously beaten...

It doesn't look like a truck, more like a glorified minivan with a box added to it. What happened to the days when trucks were suppose to be intimidating? The only Ford vehicle I find to look intimidating is a current body style F-350 from the front, with a lift and 35's. .

I have no problem with the aluminum, it's a good idea. My problem with Ford is always their designs.

I just posted the pic I didn't see this thread sorry about that.... Yeah it looks like a tundra and some co workers have had adhesion and corrosion problems with their f150 hoods and one guy has an expedition with the corroded aluminum tailgate.... Sure hope they got t right for the sake of someone who buys one

Ford site to build your own. Reading some of the comments on the above thread, sounds like you

can now push a half ton to near $65,000. I cringed at GM half tons sitting on the lot at 57-58 grand...

up to 30mpg! (only available on RCSB 2wd 4cyl non-turbo model, work truck, passenger seat, radio, a/c and spare tire deletes. )

 

Seriously though, I'm gtting mid 18s with my silverado. With a v6 truck and/or some kind of DOD type setup on the v8, it might be possible!

 

In the real world though we won't see it most likely, but it might be close!

 

Hey, if a brand can compete and make a product that people want that still performs like they want it, I'm all for it. Fords done a lot of good in the last couple years.. they just can't make a transmission to save their lives.
