latest recall fire hazard

That was all proven to be BS. NBC rigged the truck to catch fire for a segment on dateline.

Ummm, no, it actually did happen and GM paid out something to the tune of $500M.

GM did sue NBC for misrepresenting the facts of the issue, but that does not mean GM did not have an issue with the side saddle gas tank design.

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but is this fire hazard related to the exhaust? I just bought mine yesterday, and received an OnStar diagnostic report last ngiht saying there is a recall that needs immediate attention. Its related to exhaust component overheating.

I'm wondering how long the repair takes, as I work out of town and will have to sneak into a dealer to get it dealt with.

Read the thread from the beginning. It takes 15-30 mins and most dealers do it on a walk in basis.

Just got the recall done on my 2014 chevy Silverado. Has anyone else noticed there mpg going up. After the recall work was done. Mine seems to hold 4 cylinder mode longer. And in 8 cylinder mode seems like better mpg also. Took a pic of mine on about a 1 mile level stretch and it was holding 40 mpg in 4 cylinder mode. I'm not griping thats for sure just wondering if anyone else is having that same kind of results after the recal work. Thanks.

Ha! now that you mention it I do!! I thought is was just driving better!!

The earlier recalls weren't safety related, just satisfaction updates... so that's why so many might have been put off by seeing 3 or 4 in their list when they went in. GM doesn't mean to panic anyone on a satisfaction thing so it's not a hurry up panick thing. A fire thing, well that's a rush thing

After reading about a truck that burned up in Houston. http://www.chron.com/cars/article/Houston-man-s-pickup-burns-half-hour-after-he-5152922.php I went to the Dealer yesterday evening and got my truck taken care of. It only took 30 minutes or less...

I have noticed that the truck stays in V8 mode more now and when it does drop to V4 it stays longer.

I had not yet received an email or letter, nor had the Remote link App or Onstar made any note of the recall. Seems like GM should have the ability to contact us through apps. emails etc. especially when it involves a risk of burning up a vehicle. Does this fall to the dealerships to notify customers or does it fall to GM?

Follow up:

Yesterday evening as I was driving home from work I get a call from ONSTAR that gets dropped. I think I clicked the dismiss box instead of Answer. Anyway I call ONSTAR back and they patch me through to the service group. The representative looked up my truck and verified that I did not have any outstanding recall items on my truck and that their records show that I had received the fix for the ECM re-program...

I think that they are actively working through the vehicles that have the known problem and working to get them taken care of.

I've had mine done for about two weeks now and I had not noticed any mpg change. I did notice that the truck seems somewhat weaker (lack for a better term). It could just be me but was wondering if better mpgs also means less power?

Hope everyone has as good as luck as I did. Don't know what they did but I like it. Great mpg after the fire recall. Hope everyone has as good as results as I did.
I hope to have the same results, @ my dealer now waiting for mine to be done & back window regulator replacement also.

Just got mine done this morning. Less than 20 minutes from time I left my house to time I got back home.

Had mine done this morning as well as the rear slider and any other updates needed. When I got in the truck and drove home I noticed improvement in driving it seemed to be smother and wants to take off with more power.

Had mine done a couple days ago. Now when I decelerate approaching a stop light for instance it goes to V4 mode but as soon as I stop and it idles it jumps back up to V8 mode. It used to idle in V4 mode.....strange.

From what I understand it's bad for the motor to ever idle in V4 mode. Mine never has.

Onstar actually called me regarding this today, the operator was speaking urgently.. I just calmly told her that I had it done already, as I sat at the dealership due to my truck dying because of the power loss fault haha.
