'Interior Driver Assist Handle'

Just installed my shale colored drivers assist handle in my 15' Silverado with the cocoa dune interior. Fit and finish is perfect. I ordered mine off Amazon and it came in two days even though it wasn't supposed to get delivered for four.

A couple tips I didn't see mentioned. When removing the plastic retaining clip on the original trim, you do not need to cut it. People mentioned zip tying it, but if you look closely, the metal retaining clip holding it to the A pillar actually has a slot for inserting the clip on the free end of the tether. So it basically just snaps back into itself, which is how I did mine. Also, since I didn't want to cut the clip, I was careful to detach it from the original trim carefully in case I need to revert it back. To remove it from the original trim, you just need to push in the black plastic tab that goes through a small slot on the original trim piece. When you get in there you'll see what I mean. You push the tab down and through the slot and it comes completely free intact. You then just stick the extruding metal clip on the free hanging end into the opening on the metal clip holding it to the A pillar. It's now secure and out of the way. I added a photo below of the tether secured to itself when I was done so you can see what I mean.

I did however need to cut off the triangular plastic guide on the new piece of trim. With the guide there, the new trim would not line up nicely and give me a nice flush fit. I just used metal snips and snipped it off - took 5 seconds. Once off, the new piece fit nice and flush. I figured that guide is not needed since the bolts that mount it are basically right on either side of the guide and it would add nothing in the way of stability or function.

Once bolted in, everything looks prefect - better than some of sections of trim in the back I haven't even touched. Huge improvement for me, and my leather seats will thank me for it. Got it on amazon for $51.60 with free shipping. Search for: 23285089f65c6216ca308cbcbd4d65d94d444384.jpg6f3de48bbdaae71a2670e02c53b33890.jpg

Does the original piece just pop off? Or how does it come off don't want to be wrecking anything or even worse setting off the airbag. Thanks

Yep, fit perfect. Install is really simple.

1) Sitting in driver's seat, work fingers under top part of stock trim piece and then pull straight back. Two tabs holding trim will pop.

2) Between panel & pillar, there's a black tether so the panel doesn't go flying when the air bag blows. Cut/clip it as close to the pillar as possible.

3) Slide new handle panel in, bottom first, then top. The new handle panel has a big plastic alignment pin in center to help you position it correctly / line up bolt holes.

4) Insert and tighten bolts. Close bolt hole covers. Enjoy handle!

It really is only a 10 min install.

Installed one as well. Amazing this just isn't a factory default.

Just installed mine tonight too! Tried to save the tether off the original trim piece but couldn't get it to release for the life of me. Finally cut it and installed the new part with handle.

I got mine when I first got the truck and use it all the time. It should come with the truck in the first place like all the other vehicles on the market.

One is on its way and should arrive this Tuesday. Don't understand the tether or clip thing. Hope more is clear when I look at the instruction and take the original trim piece off.

Does anyone know where to find the color code to make sure I get the right one? I'm guessing the a pillars are only light gray or tan?

Is there something wrong with the assist Handle I got, part # 23285289? Does this make the Air Bag non functional? Or does the bag just bust through the plastic and whatever plastic pieces that are not held on by the bolts go flying around in space.
