'Interior Driver Assist Handle'

Just installed my shale colored drivers assist handle in my 15' Silverado with the cocoa dune interior. Fit and finish is perfect. I ordered mine off Amazon and it came in two days even though it wasn't supposed to get delivered for four.

A couple tips I didn't see mentioned. When removing the plastic retaining clip on the original trim, you do not need to cut it. People mentioned zip tying it, but if you look closely, the metal retaining clip holding it to the A pillar actually has a slot for inserting the clip on the free end of the tether. So it basically just snaps back into itself, which is how I did mine. Also, since I didn't want to cut the clip, I was careful to detach it from the original trim carefully in case I need to revert it back. To remove it from the original trim, you just need to push in the black plastic tab that goes through a small slot on the original trim piece. When you get in there you'll see what I mean. You push the tab down and through the slot and it comes completely free intact. You then just stick the extruding metal clip on the free hanging end into the opening on the metal clip holding it to the A pillar. It's now secure and out of the way. I added a photo below of the tether secured to itself when I was done so you can see what I mean.

I did however need to cut off the triangular plastic guide on the new piece of trim. With the guide there, the new trim would not line up nicely and give me a nice flush fit. I just used metal snips and snipped it off - took 5 seconds. Once off, the new piece fit nice and flush. I figured that guide is not needed since the bolts that mount it are basically right on either side of the guide and it would add nothing in the way of stability or function.

Once bolted in, everything looks prefect - better than some of sections of trim in the back I haven't even touched. Huge improvement for me, and my leather seats will thank me for it. Got it on amazon for $51.60 with free shipping. Search for: 23285089

My Truck is a early 2014 build and maybe different. The clip holding the rubber tether strap to the A pillar does not seem to want to come out. It appear you have to remove the clip so that the line-up prong will go into the hole on the A pillar. Anyone have any good ideals on getting the clip out, so you can reuse it if you have to, just in case you can not buy the clip.

Looks like first photo is upside down?

Cut clip piece and take a small flat head piece pops out. Slide in line up and put screws in

Is there something wrong with the assist Handle I got, part # 23285289? Does this make the Air Bag non functional? Or does the bag just bust through the plastic and whatever plastic pieces that are not held on by the bolts go flying around in space.

This is a side curtain airbag. That means it comes out the door side. It doesn't blow in front of you. It usually will come out right where the rubber strip is

You do not need to cut the tether. I folded mine back after sliding it out of the trim piece, spread the lines, and ran the post right between them into the hole. Fits perfect.

Not that I'll be taking it off and putting the stock trim back on but, it could be done. I use my handle getting in and out, every time. Saves on the side seat bolster wear too.

There seems to be a difference in vehicles. On my 2014 Silverado 1500 I had to cut the post off the new assist handle/molding. As the post does not line up with the hole in the A pillar.

Interesting. I put mine on a while ago, but I didn't have to cut anything. Lined right up and the strap some are calling a tether I kept there too.

Yeah - I put mine on a 2015 LT and the little "post" on the new trim lined up with a hole ABOVE the tether, not in the same spot as the tether. Strange ...

I'm embarrassed to say I couldn't fit mine :( so I ended cutting the middle part down by 2 inches and then fit was perfect. With the bolts I figured you didn't need that piece. Great stuff
