3000 Miles and I get a Low Oil Warning on my dash.

I just had my oil changed for the first time in my Sierra. (2014 SLT) The oil was always right between the hash marks during my checks and that was about every 500-700 miles. I changed it at 5000 miles and was advised that the only oil that you should put in it, quoting the service data, was synthetic. If it was me, for what you paid for that baby, I would haul a&& to the dealership and inquire. Let us know what you find out. Like I said, mine was fine.

Well I have bad news and good news.... The bad news is there is something very wrong with the truck. When pulling into the dealership the truck started to make a very high pitched noise and it was so loud you could hear it inside. The mechanic came out to inspect and advised me that they no longer think they should work on it and GM should buy it back from me.

The Good News...The Dealer has agreed that it needs to be bought back and they are going to put me in a new truck. I have to wait until Monday to speak with a GM specialist and get further details. I will keep everyone up on the progress. The dealer is actively finding me a truck now and might upgrade...we will see!

Wow - Thanks for the update. Sounds like your dealer is trying to do right by you. It would be nice if they were all like this. Good luck and keep us posted.

Pro's - Dealer seems to be helping.

Con's - theyre going to find a more expensive truck for you to upgrade and you are gonna have to throw more cash down to get into it.

Keep in mind that while a truck buyback would be nice, they are within their right to put another motor in it if they so choose.

Dealer told me today that no money will come out of my pocket and if anything I will receive some rebates back. We will see and fingers crossed.

To be hones,t they could tell me to kick rocks and get an attorney and go have fun with the lemon law but they are not. I've been to the dealer 16 times and the GM over the dealership wants me happy. The dealership has been amazing and highly recommend them. The staff is hands down the best I've experienced and got lucky with that.

Happened to me once after my second oil change. Drove it hard for a few days to make sure those rings were seated. No issues since.

Please keep us updated. Will the dealer tell you what went wrong with the truck that they don't want to fix?

Looks like you might be right on the more expensive truck. Today the dealer called me and told me they found a crew cab all terrain and it would be 3500.00 more than my double cab. I told them that there will not be one penny coming out of my pocket. They then said they would try their hardest to work it out. Ill update on the next call....I'm very happy that i'm getting a new truck and glad i'm not going through with lemon law!!

Thanks and Ill keep you guys updated. I have had many problems go wrong with my truck, I've had the fuel module replaced, fuel tank, fuel pump, all the tires, back window, afm module and so on. Plus all the recalls...at this point I just don't feel safe in the truck.

I suspect the idea that oil consumption is now acceptable in a new vehicle has a lot to do with running 0W-20 oil.

I have a 2014 5.3L Yesterday my Low Oil light came one, my truck has 19421 miles my last oil change was at 15165 miles (124/14). The oil usage was at 45%. I added 2qrts of oil that brought the oil on the dip stick up between the hash lines. The oil on the dip stick was clean and there was no burnt oil smell.

I read through this post, this is normal?

thanks

No, it's not normal. I just checked mine at 4700 miles since last oil change and it is still full to the top mark. It does look dirty though. I may get it changed today.

The best you can do is take it into the dealer and have it documented as much as possible. If they tell you this is normal, then every single vehicle that comes off the line should be consuming the same amount.

That much consumption would be killing catalytic converters over a few years I would think.
