Yeah... there is no rhyme or reason when the plug is present or not. Also, no consistency when the plug is present, if it’s hot either.

Another reason I made the video and harness to cover all scenarios.

Following the schematic and this video mine is just wierd.. or I am blind and retarded.  Like I have the violet wire with the white stripe from pin 37 on X51 to pin 41 on the X201 connector.  I should then just need to connect to the other side of that being pin 1 ( hot) and pin 2 (ground) on X4 which is the clockspring plug end.

 

I mean most guys I have read here either have nothing whatsoever, or have the connector plug for the clocksping but are missing the jumper lead from X51 to X201.  Instead I have the jumper from  X51 to X201 and apparently no plug...... or it is there and in a different spot and or hidden very well lol.  

 

To use a jumper harness ( like pgmaboa shows in the video) direct to X51 I would have to pull out the existing wire in pin 37 and land another.  In my case I should be able to go from X201 and just finish the circuit off. Just need some pins and a connector end or just cut the clocksprings one off and do my own plug.

You are correct in all that you have said. If you are able to explore the X201 and see if the circuit leaves that Pin 1 (Hot). The ground will most likely be there because other circuits generally splice off of it down the line.

If that circuit is there, then the plug has to be somewhere. Lol. Usually, it’s not far from the plug. Here is a pic of it. I don’t recall if it is indeed Pin 1 though.

Pin 1 and pin 2 would be in the connector hooking to the clockspring.  The pin id on X201 should remain just 41.  Just seems ridiculous they put the effort in to run the wiring to there and didn't finish it... or did and I just can't find the plug.  My truck is a weird ass fleet order so it doesn't surprise me.  How many Bose, heated power buckets/console, power pedals, power slider etc trucks do you see with manual single zone climate and without fog lights lol.

I’ve seen 5 complete dash harnesses and each is wired differently. lol.

But yes, check if Pin 41 is loaded on your X201.

Yeah I know that lol.  One side of the plug is terminated from X51.  I am just saying I don't know whether it is on the other side yet as I haven't pulled mine apart. I am guessing not as i don't see the plug for the wheel itself but who knows.  That X201 plug is in a wonderful spot to get to and I haven't starting tearing things apart that deep yet.  I will figure it out as it's what I do.

I don't know if your username means you have an HD truck but if you do the steering wheel wiring is different than the 1500's.  Phil may know more about the differences ...

I do have a 3/4 ton yes.  There is a video in this thread I used that shows the part numbers to order.  The HD trucks and half tons use different wheels and clocksprings.

Have my heated steering wheel installed. But the connector by the steering column is different than the plug from the clock spring. Furthermore there is no wire landed at pin 37 in the fuse block. 2018 Silverado LT Z71.

just wanted to give a shootout to pgamboa for making the harness and helping me with making sure I ordered the correct parts.  Between the harness and the videos, this was a super easy swap and now I have heated steering wheel in all of our vehicles!

I have an 18, looking like I need wheel PN 84353110 , and clock spring PN 84186645

 

Haven't gone searching for the connector yet, but can anyone tell me if this will come on automatically when using factory remote start (the seats do)?

I have an 18 with heated seats and heated wheel from the factory. Unfortunately the heated wheel will not come on with remote start. No option to set it to come on in settings. 

 

‘My friends 18 ram heated wheel comes on with heated seats if outside temp is below 40 degrees. 

 

I was disappointed my 60k msrp professional grade - truck didn’t have the same option.

Just one of many things these trucks don't have that they should.  Things like blind spot monitor, push-button start, auto-leveling rear suspension (older GM stuff had it), radar cruise and HUD.

Isn’t that the Damn truth. My last LT had more than my newer one, GM just keeps going up in price, and the Customer keeps getting less. My Older LT, came with memory seats, Auto Dimming mirror, etc..., and looked better than this (19) new styles in my opinion, plus far cheaper. They can keep that Dynamic Fuel management/AFM Crap.I bought an 8 cylinder, because I wanted an 8 cylinder, Not a Damn 4 cylinder. That’s my 2 Cents lol .

I am mentioning things that aren't available at all but should be, since it is well established tech that has been available for a decade.  You are mentioning items that are available but you chose not to purchase a truck optioned with those items.
