So I'm looking to upgrade my sound system a bit, specifically I'm thinking of getting a small subwoofer (8-10 inch), I've already gotten an aftermarket stereo deck. I have no idea when it comes to this sort of stuff, so what sort of things should I look for/be wary of? I'm talking with a guy who has a 10 inch Kenwood sub with a box for $70, does this mean it's cheap and low quality or will it be fine? Also, I would then need to get an amp as well, what should I look for when buying one to make sure it's good quality? He said he was running it on a 400 watt amp if it makes a difference.

I would never buy a used sub just because the nature of the product is to take high power and slam itself around to make noise.

So even if used 'gently' who knows what state it is in.

You would be better off buying a new sub and enclosure with a warranty to be safe.

In car audio world most speaker companies exaggerate their power ratings so try to match up an amp that wont immediately fry your sub on first use.

Best bet is to research around to see what others have used succesfully, combinations of enclosure/sub/amp.

If you watch the forums you will hear the same model numbers come up over and over so you can be pretty sure to get something that is tried and true.

Be prepared that if you try to save money and get the cheapest available of any car audio, you may find your money goes to waste when things die a premature death.

Do a google search for '10 inch sub for Sierra Silverado' and read through the posts in the various forums.
