I don't know this for sure, but according to my brother-in-law, if your tires are rotated properly they should stay quiet. Just gotta make sure they wear evenly. I could be wrong but seems to make sense

Providing they wear flat yes, but imagine being out of balance and then having prolonged rotations...very cupped tires. Just a thought.

 

I drive around 40,000 miles a year(for the past 19 yrs), with 40% of those miles off-road, dirt road, or field roads(I work in agriculture), and have found that if you don't check regularly your tires can start to cup or wear irregularly quickly if even slightly out of adjustment. Things like mud in the wheels and stuck rocks in the grips exaggerate these problems. I know most don't drive in these conditions, but some do.

I should also mention I ran a set of Goodyear's new Adventure series on AT tire on my wife's Tahoe for 10,000 miles, and they were very quiet and rode well. I traded the Tahoe this week, so someone got a new set of tires, ha-ha.

Btw, just a rant here... someone mentioned rocks. I HATE ROCKS IN MY TREADS! I literally keep a pick tool in my truck to dig them out on a daily basis. I dont ever go "off roading" but i park in a gravel parking lot every day. The way i see it, i have 2 choices. Step up to a mud tire with wider tread blocks or go back to street tires. Neither of which i want to do but i might consider going back to streets on my next set since i rarely get off pavement. Ok rant over thanks

What would you guys recommend for softer more comfortable tire? This Z71 is killing me with the jitters in the steering wheel. Thinking about 2.5 rc with rear block and either a 285/65/18 or maybe a 275/70/18. hardly ever off road but I do get 8 /10 inches two or three times a year. Thanks

the level will not make your rider any softer, but probably wont make it any more firm. try the michelin ltx m/s

I do not recommend the Goodyear DuraTrac's! I had them on my previous truck for 17 kmi, up until I traded it in. I rotated them every 5 kmi and kept them at proper pressure. They were a quiet tire for 7500 miles or so. After that very annoying. The side wall is also to soft, which causes the truck to sway when lane changing.

 

I recommend the Yokohama Geolander ATS!!! Long tread life, look great & quiet! Awesome ride.

I really like the 275/60/20 Ko2s we put on my girls truck. Seems to do very well and her gas mileage dropped only 1mpg. Road noise is not a problem, tho i do have mud terrain on mine so i may have gottenused to it..... Not sure lol

 

Does well in the sand for being a 2wd and looks the part!

Every tire I've owned didn't show its true noise level until I put 10-15k miles on them. My Cooper STMaxx 305-60/18 were quiet for a while. With 30,000 miles on them now, they howl like hell. I love them on the dirt, but they suck on the pavement.

 

I'm likely to go less aggressive on the next set. Maybe the toyo A/T or the similar.

 

I don't believe there is a big aggressive tire that is quiet in the long run, nor that gets good mpg.

There are many "perfect tires". Everyone has a different opinion of what a perfect tire should be. It's like asking what the perfect color is for a truck. The perfect tire is the one you buy at the moment you plop your credit card down. After that moment, all bets are off.

look into toyo open country AT2. 60 k warranty! there lighter than a trail grappler or duratrac and dont hum whatsoever. they have the agressive look with good performance. i loved them on my old truck and when the tires on this truck wear out thats what il be getting.
