HELP- 05 2500hd

Hey guys I'm in need of some help on my 2005 2500HD. The truck is a 6.0l 4wd and it has 201,000 miles. When I put it in 4hi and start moving it makes a weird pop noise and I can feel it kind of jerk. It started doing this when i would go over say 40mph but now it does it even when i pull out of a parking spot. This is while driving on snow not even dry pavement. It drives fine in 2wd but as soon as I put it in 4hi it acts up. I have a sneaking suspicion this is the transfer case taking a shit. Has anybody had a problem like this? Could the transfer case just be low on fluid? Or is this a front hub taking a shit? I'm in college right now so I need make certain what the problem could be before I dish out $2,000 for a transfer case. Also there is fluid leaking out from the transmission crossmember by the frame, not much just enough to make it wet, it doesn't drip at all. Thanks.

have you had the transfer case fixed for the 'pump rub' problem?

I personally haven't and I don't know if it ever was fixed.

could be that it did rub through, and the fluid from the case has leaked out over time.

time to crawl under there and see what's up. you need to be doing this periodically anyway, just to make sure the fluid level is ok.

Double check all fluid levels and condition. Then check for any and all leaks from anywhere and everywhere. When I bought my truck the transfer case was pretty much toast...15 year old truck with 300+K miles so I got a reserviced case for $800 and it took care of the issues I had. Mine was making horrible noises, leaking, and fluid was completely cooked.

Alrighty, could this have damaged the transfer case by having low fluid, I mean I didn't run it in 4wd after hearing the noise right after it started?

Yes it could have damaged the case. Certain internals are still used regardless if you have it 4wd or 2wd. Best bet would be to take it to a reputable place to crack it open and inspect the internal to see if it's repairable or better to replace.
