Headlight Illumination Issues

Checked my truck, has Phillips bulbs, looks like a call to the dealer to have the service bulletin performed for whatever that is worth.

Well I went to the dealer and got new bulbs installed (flash had already been done). Seems to be some improvement. Still have an issue, while high beams are on, not much lighting close up, especially in the ditches on dark skinny back roads in AL. I do have fog lights (driving lights), they work well in conjunction with the low beams to light up the ditches of course they go out when high beams are switched on.

Also tried some LED lights from LEDheadlightspro.com, DON"T, I repeat DON'T waste your time with this company. They are nothing more than an internet company front.The LED headlight's Tabs don't line up properly with the light socket. I'm in the process of trying o return and getting the run around from this bogus company. The lights wouldn't even power up when I tried to do an operational check on them. This company is also affiliated with Xenonpro.com. Another farce company. I have been forwarded to another "site" to file a "ticket" for my return. Of course I have heard nothing since filing my "ticket". Both websites look identical with only the name being different. The return address on the box of lights was from some fish market in NJ. That should tell you something. I thing they just order crap and sell it through their website "front". Again steer clear of these guys..

I had a set from them, they worked but were garbage lighting wise. It was a pain to get a return authorization number from them and it took a month and a half but I did get my money back after sending them back.

If i did not have the foglightbulbs replaced with headlight bulbs and aux lights these 2014 GMCs would be daytime trucks only. Did the mod with fogs with high beam also!

Alright I gave the LED lights a chance again since I have a few days to myself at home. I was able to get them in and they do look good, I found to get the best I had do the 3/9 o'clock thing other folks had to do. If these lights had more LEDs around the blub it would be nice, but since the reflector unit kinda crap already you work with what you got. I can see the light pattern change on ground. I think these are going to work until I can get a better option. Still having a problem with one light intermittently working. So I got an inquiry out to Xenon Depot to see what else I can do. Doesn't look like it is heat as when the light goes out the heat wicks are cool to the touch, could be bad wiring on the light its self or I have a bad bulb. On a side note, I am getting better at getting that damn air box out, can get it out replace/adjust the bulb and have it put back in and locked down in about 15 minutes. Not sure if that is a good thing but at least it is not a pain anymore.

I read on another site to unplug the maf sensor, loosen the clamp, and pull the intake box up without taking it apart.

Found another thing about the Xenon Depot bulbs, the little control boxes need to stay away from the heat wicks. Thankfully the GMC lights have a lot of nooks and crannies, to put the boxes in, I think if they are too close to the wicks or reflector, it gets hot and the lights go out. Still testing out the lights but driving for an hour today cleaning snow and idling with the lights on, they didn't go out as far as I can tell.

I got better at taking out the airbox too, after the second time! I'm prepared to do it again, if I need to change a bulb or if a better solution arises. I'm going to hold off on the LED and HID bulb setups. Writing a letter to GM President -- asking for them to replace my lights, and that the TSB is an improvement but not good enough to be considered a solution. They can revoke that engineer's meritorious service medal for all I care. Anyway, if they don't answer in a positive manner, I think I'm going to file a NTSB safety claim. And it that doesn't work, I'll probably just suck it up until I need a new pickup truck in, oh, about 10 years. Because this GM is otherwise pretty good, and I'm only putting 8000 miles a year on it.

I feel for you, I don't drive the truck very much myself either, mostly a winter vehicle or when I need the cargo space. The truck is basically a second vehicle.

 

I was out there tonight tweaking the lights a bit to get the beam pattern just right. Got something I can live with and matches the standard cutoffs. It is much brighter now and I can see well without having to put on my fogs. I have other stuff I want to do with the truck so this is fine for now, will revisit later once the truck has been out for a while and more aftermarket light products come out.

 

However what I find funny is my Mini Cooper S, new was about 16K less than the truck when you compare prices new for each. It has the full LED light setup (DRL, parking lights, Headlights, Fogs and some parts of the rear lights). It manages to throw out a nice pattern and light up the way so much better. I know my truck will never be as good as that light setup but if I can get it close I would be happy.

We have a 2010 Camry, headlights on it are so much better than the Sierra.

 

Maybe need someone from GMC to job shadow the engineers at Toyota to get a handle on lighting?

I noticed the 2016 Camero has HID projector lights, could this be fitted to my 2015 Sierra with projector low beams? I would be ok with 2 high beams,

The headlights on the Toyota Tundra are manually adjustable, up and down. Hunt either squirrels or rabbits.

Do the foglight when high beams on mod. Will make a huge difference in lighting up close and better side lighting.

Would be good to be able to have it so the fogs come on with both lows & highs automatically.
