Cab light install

I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0l. It is an LS trim. There is a button to what appears to be cab lights to the lower right of the radio. I do not currently have cab lights installed and there are no holes from them ever being on the truck. When I push the button there's a light that will illuminate signifying there's power. My question is, if I have that button does that mean the wiring is already fed to the roof and all I would need to do is connect some lights and drill some holes. Or is that button for something completely different.

can you post a picture of the area where the button is? it sounds like it is an upfitter/3rd party button, not an OEM one.

 

I've got a '04 Sierra 3500 SLE with cab lights, and they just come on with the regular lights, no separate button.

There are also separate fog light and bed light buttons, but those are on the other side, by the headlight switch.

Probably part of the snow plow prep package...it's for the amber beacon some install on the roof. My 2012 has the same switch in the overhead center console.

The button you are referring to is indeed part of the snow plow prep package and is for a roof top mount (caution light) for plowing snow. The wires are bundled up on top of the headliner. Some guys have used this for cab clearance lights.

If you pull down the head liner in the divers side partially you'll find the wires for the cab (roof ?) lights you can add - some people run the wires out the cab high mount brake light vs drilling a hole ...
