My local dealer is $60 for oil change and rotate. If I buy filter and oil its about $55. I'll gladly spend $5 extra to not have the hassle. And I get to drink coffee, watch TV, and know that if anything happens it is all documented.

No fun in that. Rather do it in the drive way garage door open watching NASCAR or hunting channel and drinking a beer, plus it is cheaper then going to the dealer or at least in my area. Doing my self $56, $48 for oil and filter $8 for the six pack.

Sorry guys. I guess I was having a blond step-daughter moment. Ha ha. $5 bucks to have someone else do it is worth it. Agreed. I usually do my own maintenance but winter maintenance I’m happy to pass on to someone else.

If my dealer only charged $5 more than doing it myself I would take it to my dealer. My dealer charges $80 for the oil change.

I guess I'm just old enough to have a bunch of free time to do it myself and take pride in the job done right the first time. Heard too many tales about 6 qts. of oil put in an 8 qt. engine or filters replaced way too tight or drain plugs rounded off or stripped out. Oh, well; come join me in the morning and I'll let you watch the old man work.

Or maybe not.

May be a lot more to do with our above and below freezing temps that promotes oxidation. Sometimes brass will turn from the humidity and salt in air - with no actual flow across it of any kind.

Im on an island in the Atlantic Ocean and we use salt/sand on our roads lol.

One of the major quick change oil lube places advertises you can stay in your car while they change your oil, so you can make sure they do it right.

at the dealer several years ago, I was watching from the waiting area. After they were done I asked the fine gentleman how he was able to lube the pitman and idler arm without loosening/lowering the skid plate. He told me that he would do it again.

Im all in on the 6 pack, it also doesnt help thatbthe dealer is 5 mins from work bye foot, just 2 convienent, and like mentioned the tire rotation, ill changethe oil on my firehawk, or boat with the time saved ;o)

I use a piece of aluminum foil and wrap it over the frame of my wife's car. The oil filter is directly above the frame. This allows the oil to run down the foil and into the pan.

Don't ever pay full price for an oil change at the dealer. There are usually discount coupons here (Certified GM Service website):

Did something similar to this with my dad's '86 Celebrity, oil filter sat over the frame that would hold 1/4 of the oil, no drain hole on it.
