Adding keypad keyless entry?

What about when you loose them, or leave them in the car and the dog locks the door.

I ordered one with my new truck which is suppose to be in this week. .3 or an hour for installation or $18, which I think the dealer should throw in. Why are they driving customers away to fords? I follow the procedure outline and think I can do it; but what a hassle. If I can't hide it somewhere it will go in the trash, hopefully there will be a key available just to open the door that I can hide somewhere.

Before you start

Note: For the keypad to adhere best, the vehicle’s front door should be free of damage (dents, scratches, creases, fractures, etc.).

1. The part and surface should be 21°C (70°F) prior to installation. The vehicle should remain 21°C (70°F) for one hour after assembly to allow adhesive to develop sufficient bond strength.
2. Clean the area above the driver side door handle with alcohol wipe.

Programming and Mounting the Keypad to the Vehicle

1. Technician use a QR/Bar (QRB) Code reader and scan the QRB code from the Keyless Entry Keypad Wallet Card. You can also take a picture of the QRB code.
2. Transfer the file your computer (e-mail or cable transfer) to a folder.
3. Send file to TCSC along with the vehicle VIN and the Authorization Code from the Wallet Card. Make sure to include the following in the subject line: “Vehicle Vin Needs Updated to add the GM RF Keypad Programming and .csv files is needed for attached QRB Code”
4. TCSC will send you another file back. Place this file in C:\Users\your id\sps\type4.
5. TIS2WEB should now have the “BCM Cody Control Module – Accessory only Keypad Learn” option in Supported Controllers
6. Using TIS2WEB Program the Keypad.
7. Once TIS2WEB verifies the programming was successful, enter the 5 digit driver unlock code within 30 seconds. If the driver door unlocks, the Keypad was successfully entered.
8. Using Appendix “A” to find the suggested mounting location, prep the mounting location using the Alcohol Prep Pad.
9. Remove the red tape liners and press the keypad to the mounting location being careful to make sure the keypad is following the suggested body line. Use even pressure across the keypad to insure good tape adhesion.
10. Verify the keypad’s functionality using the “User Instructions.
11. Place the “User Wallet Card” and the “User Instructions” in the vehicle owner’s manual.

APPENDIX A Procedure

2. Starting from the driver side rear door edge (1) measure 157 mm along the door feature line (5) and position keypad (2).

   Note: Use masking tape to mark dimensions.

3. Starting from the door feature line (4) measure down 48 mm and position top edge (3) of keypad.

   Note: Use masking tape to mark dimensions.

4. Peel the protective liner from the adhesive backing on keypad and position to marked dimensions. Be careful not to touch the tape with hands and do not allow tape to come in contact with dirt or any foreign matter prior to adhesion.

   Important: The adhesive will bond quickly to the paint. In the event that the keypad should be mis-aligned after installation, do not attempt to remove the keypad as this will cause paint damage. To avoid mis-alignment, do not drop the keypad into place. Instead, first align the top edge of the keypad to the referenced masking tape, then right outer edge to referenced masking tape. Then, toggle the keypad into place. Once the keypad is in place, press firmly on the entire surface of the keypad and then apply 15 PSI of equal pressure along the entire keypad to ensure good tape adhesion.

Easy, just get an extra set and tape it to the frame under the vehicle. If you loose the truck no big deal and you only know where you taped the key.

I want this for my truck, but I have a 2015. GM needs to make one for the older trucks. Has anybody figured out why it won't work for older trucks? I assume that this is just another RF transmitter like the key fobs. Is the rolling code different in 2017?

I put one in. Attached to the inside of the gas door so isn't on the exterior of the vehicle.

Can you post a picture of this on the inside of the fuel door?

FYI I'm seeing some indication that GM is going to back port this now to previous model year vehicles. I'll keep my eyes peeled!

I've been on vacation for the past few weeks traveling with my dog and something I'd really like to have on my truck even before this trip is a keypad for keyless entry. Yes I have a fob remote and the OnStar/GMC app but it would be so nice to be able to not worry about locking my keys/remote in the truck and phone especially with my dog in the southern heat by accident. So has anyone attempted to add a keypad on there 2014+ truck and if so will it interfere with the alarm or fob or phn apps?

 

in the past i have gotten an additional key fob and would hide it under the truck incase i loose my keys or in case of emergency/ lock keys in truck etc... iv always used safety wire to secure it . i have a dog to thats the main reason and i place it in a spot that is easily explainable to someone but still hidden incase i have to tell someone over the phone or something

What's different between a 2017 and older trucks that prevents this from being used with older vehicles?

Just looking for an update. For those of you who have installed it, do any of you have push button start? I would love to add this keypad to my 17' Yukon but as near as I can tell there is no way to lock the keyfob in the car. Was wondering if the keypad would let you do that. There's times when being able to lock my fob in the car and not have to worry about carrying it would come in very handy.

Update: I've had this on my 17 for 4 months now and I use it all the time. I didn't think it would come in handy as much as it has. I originally installed it above my door handle and it looked terrible. So I moved it to my wiper cowl and you don't even know it's there.

I know this is 2017 only... two questions:

 

1. Will it work on a 2500? Or is this only 1500?

2. The install info posted indicates a computer is necessary. Does this require windows, or can you do it yourself with a mac? (My dealer is horrible and I don't trust them to install anything).

 

I only have my Silverado 2500 for a month and am already counting the days until I trade it in and go back to the other brand. A horrible dealer and some little issues can be worked around. However, it didn't take me long to realize how essential keypad entry is for me. I do many events where it isn't practical to carry around keys/phone/wallet. I am so accustomed to locking them in my car and using a keypad. This device would be a savior if I can get it to work with my truck and not have to go through the dealer.
